DOLORES CAMACHO (NEE NAVARRO) EAST CHICAGO, IN

Dolores "Dona Lola" Camacho (nee Navarro), age 90 of East Chicago, found her way home May 4, 2010. She leaves behind to cherish her memory six children: Maria Guadalupe (Pedro) Gonzalez of East Chicago, Grace (Michael) Diaz of Highland, Maria Delia (Steven) Poole of Valparaiso, Maria Adelina Camacho (Jesse Smalls) of Katy, TX, Javier (Margie) Camacho of East Chicago and Maria Sylvia (Adrian) Chavez of Hammond; grandchildren: Angelica (Junior) Lopez, Gerardo (Luz) Gonzalez, David (Salina) Gonzalez, Alyssa Diaz (significant other Lee Keasal), Caroline Diaz, Allison and Cristina Poole, Alexander, Zachary and Maury Smalls, Jacqueline and Michael Camacho, and Richard Chavez; great grandchildren: Julian, Bianca, Nicolas, Sienna, Ariana and Mariano Gonzalez; one half sister, Herminia Flores; and three half brothers: Alfredo, Ramiro and Antonio Navarro. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Mariano Camacho (1999); and son, Ricardo Javier Camacho. Dolores was a courageous woman who in 1958, came to the U.S. alone with five children, ages one through ten, not knowing a word of English, never having left her native home of Michoacan, Mexico. Her two year visit was the beginning of a thriving life away from home that was soon followed by the birth of her seventh child. Even with only a second grade education, her continued desire for knowledge and betterment allowed her to learn English and ultimately become a U.S. citizen. Her strong will in the face of adversity and hardship became the foundation of her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Her passion for cooking cultivated a strong bond with her family and friends. Her mastery of sewing and crocheting has created countless gifts which will allow us to cherish her memory always. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in East Chicago. Dolores will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Adios Mama. Funeral services will be held DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3510 Deodar, East Chicago, IN on Friday, May 7, 2010 with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Mount Mercy Cemetery, Gary.
