Glenn Crooks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 12, 2024.
Glenn Ott Crooks, 77, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. A life defined by integrity, dedication, and an unparalleled zest for living, Glenn leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Born and raised in Upland, Pennsylvania, Glenn was the son of the late Harold and Dorothy (Wickersham) Crooks. He was also predeceased by his sister Marilyn Manderfield and sister-in-law Eileen Goglia.

Glenn is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Maureen Methven Crooks. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. They raised their family in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, where they spent 17 joyful years before moving to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. There, Glenn became known for his warm hospitality and endless entertaining. In retirement, Glenn and Maureen relocated to Kennedyville, Maryland, where they embraced new friendships and adventures.

A devoted father and grandfather, Glenn is lovingly remembered by his children Ian Crooks (Petra), Ryan Crooks (Jillian), and Shannon Chiovari (David). His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: John and Anna Crooks; Caroline, Abbey, and Eleanor Crooks; and Dominick and Dylan Chiovari. Glenn is also survived by his sister Kathleen Hildick (John) as well as siblings-in-law Timothy Methven (Debbie), Brian Methven (Kim), Colleen Norton (Paul), Noreen Sibley (Richard), Laureen Giampa (Giovanni), Patrick Methven (Tracey), and numerous nieces and nephews who hold him dear in their hearts.

Glenn's remarkable work ethic was evident from an early age when he began delivering newspapers at just 12 years old. This sense of responsibility carried into his professional life during a distinguished 25-year career with Aqua Pennsylvania in Bryn Mawr. A proud Eagle Scout and longtime Troop Leader, Glenn exemplified the values of leadership and service throughout his life. He further demonstrated these qualities during his time as a Military Police officer in Germany while serving in the United States Army.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Glenn was a man deeply committed to his family and community. His unwavering devotion to those he loved left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Whether through quiet acts of kindness or moments of shared joy at gatherings large or small, Glenn's presence brought warmth and connection to all around him.

To honor Glenn's extraordinary life, prayer services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on December 19 at Upland Baptist Church, located at 325 Main Street in Upland, Pennsylvania. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life beginning at 12:30 p.m. at The Towne House at 117 Veterans Square in Media, Pennsylvania. Free parking will be available at the Baltimore Pike and Olive Street parking garage. The Towne House holds special significance as it was where Glenn met Maureen in 1971 while they were both working there-a fitting place to celebrate the love that defined their lives together.

The family kindly requests that attendees bring stories to share as part of this celebration of Glenn's vibrant spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glenn's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center.

Glenn Ott Crooks lived a life full of purpose, generosity, and love-a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who grieve his passing while celebrating the joy he brought into their lives.

I have known Glenn for half of my life. Meeting him was the best. My life changed from that moment on. Thirty five years of great memories. He was truly a great friend. Anytime I needed help with anything, from buying a car to taking a vacation, he would always lend a helping hand. I will never forget this wonderful man.

Glenn has been described as kind and generous. I can vouch for that. When Karen and I came to Kentmore Park 15 years ago, Glenn stopped by to introduce himself. I was lugging a very heavy sliding glass door out of the house. I could hardly lift it. Glenn immediately came to help me. He asked how I planned to dispose of it. I said I had no idea. Then he offered to take it to the dump -he said he was going there anyway. I offered to go along to help him lift it out but he said: " no, you are busy working and need to keep going- I know how that works" I was very grateful for this selfless act of kindness. After 15 years,I still think of this whenever I hear his name!

I was privileged to know Glenn as a neighbor and a friend at Kentmore Park. He took me under his wing as we served together on the Board of Directors. I will remember Glenn "always with his hand in the air", one of the first to volunteer for any job or project. Every time seeing each task through to completion and perfection.
One funny story that illustrates his immense kindness. I was sitting next to Glenn at a board meeting and complaining about my knee aching. Within 15 minutes of the end of the meeting, Glenn was at my house gifting me a tube of Voltarin! So thoughtful and prompt!
I feel very honored to have had the experience of his friendship and his many kindnesses. God Bless.
