Glenn Mahrt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 27, 2025.
Glenn Mahrt, 80, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, in Meridian, Idaho. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and scholar, Glenn lived a life marked by service, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Born on February 25, 1945, in Vancouver, Washington, Glenn was the son of Harold and Edna Mahrt. His early years in the Pacific Northwest fostered a lifelong love of the outdoors-a passion that would remain with him throughout his life.

Glenn served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970, as an Air Traffic Controller at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. Rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, he brought precision and dedication to his role during a pivotal time in American military history.

Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Glenn pursued higher education with determination and focus. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. His academic journey continued at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where he achieved both a Master of Science and a Ph.D. in Biology. His commitment to science reflected not only intellectual rigor and ethics but also a profound respect for life's complexity and beauty.

Glenn's professional accomplishments were matched by his devotion to family. He shared more than five decades of marriage with his beloved wife Patty (Rasmussen) Mahrt. Together they raised two sons: Matthew and Brian Mahrt. Glenn took great pride in their achievements.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Patty, two sons Matthew (Tracy) and Brian (Jamie), four grandchildren and his brother Gary Mahrt. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Edna Mahrt and his sister Myrna Skiff.

Outside of work and family life, Glenn found solace and excitement in nature. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping under starlit skies, casting lines into quiet streams while fishing, tracking game through wooded trails during hunting season, and carving down snowy slopes on skis. These pursuits were not just hobbies-they were expressions of his enduring connection to the land and its rhythms.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and inspiration to all who value knowledge, service, and the great outdoors.
