He was born in Kleinfeltersville on June 2, 1930, a son of the late Frank and Bertha Gerhart McQuate.
Sonny worked for E.J. Lavino in Newmanstown as a clerk and served as a supervisor for Heidelberg Township for 24 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy and was a life member of the Richland American Legion, Post 880. He also was a graduate of Lebanon
Business College.
Sonny is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel McQuate and Allen McQuate; sisters: Grace Levengood, Anna Keener and Earla Enck.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. in Clauser Funeral Home, N. Carpenter St., Schaefferstown, with a viewing beginning on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be made with military honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 855 Tuck St., Suite 2, Lebanon, PA 17042.
