Gloria Sandra Hinman

On Friday June 6, 2025, Gloria Sandra Hinman -fondly known as "Miss Sandy" of Harkers Island, NC passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at her daughter's home in CT.

She was the daughter of Leslie and Elsie Kline, and the wife of the late Paul Hinman, retired Fire Chief of Harkers Island Fire and Rescue. She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly: her children Daniel Schaefer, Lisa (Andy) Kipperman, and Kristin Hinman Ranciato all of Connecticut; her 5 cherished grandchildren and two great grandchildren; her sisters Jeanette Latella of Maine, and Carolyn Mallinson and Linda Weimer of Florida.

Miss Sandy was a warrior in every sense of the word. Over the past 6.5 years, we grew closer than ever. She became my best friend, and I, hers. Even as she battled multiple cancers with incredible strength, she found joy, humor, and love in the life we had together.

Many will remember her as the favorite bus driver of the 1970s, or from her years serving at the North Haven Police Department as a civilian dispatcher and later in the records department. Afterward, she worked at a real estate office in CT before relocating to North Carolina, where she and her husband maintained Ward's Creek RV Park with pride and care.

As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours or formal farewells. But I can't let her go without recognizing her remarkable presence in my life. She was my rock, my confidant, and a force of nature whose absence will be deeply felt and missed.

Rest in Peace Mama! I love you and already miss you sooo much.
