Gloria LeGrow Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 20, 2024.
Gloria Eucebia Marson LeGrow (née Smith) quietly and peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of May 20, 2024 at the age of 100 in Elmira, Ontario. She was born on January 8, 1924, in Toronto, Ontario. Gloria was a dedicated individual who lived life with vigor and total commitment. She spent almost 50 years volunteering at Corbrook (an interview about her experiences can be found at https://corbrook.com/about-us/history/!), She held various volunteer positions and even served on the Board as Treasurer and even Director, finding fulfillment in her efforts there even if it was just to help people organize a meal there. She was very active in her church – Rosedale United. She was active in almost every way possible to volunteer – with the womens group – organizing and helping with setting up special events, craft shows and special dinners throughout the year. She also loved to make sandwiches for group gatherings and receptions for special services as well. She was a very involved and dedicated Church member. Gloria also supported Variety Village and had a great love for the Arts, being a season ticket holder for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and a frequent attendee of the Stratford Festival and Shaw Festival Theatre, just to name a few.

In her career, Gloria worked at Eaton's as a bookkeeper, where she met her husband Howard, and later served as a bookkeeper for her husband's company, Sapphire Staging Co. Ltd. She was a graduate of Jarvis Collegiate Institute and the University of Toronto.

Gloria's devotion to her family was boundless and she found joy in every interaction with all. She is survived by her sons William "Ward" (Sandra), Michael (Sharon), granddaughter - Ginger (Josh), grandsons - Dustin (Ashley), Noel, great grandchildren - Maverick and Kingston as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard and her brother Marson.

Gloria's hobbies, aside from volunteering, included, investing, painting, and Bridge, if she wasn't doing any of those, likely she could be found trying to find a nice steak sandwich or fish and chips and a pint, (and if you were a friend of hers in the hospital – you could be sure there would be a personal delivery of that sandwich and beer in the immediate future)!

A celebration of Gloria's life will be held on July 20th at 2:00 pm at Rosedale United Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca), Alzheimer's Society Toronto (alz.to), or Corbrook (corbrook.com), causes that Gloria held dear to her heart.

Her vibrant spirit and unwavering dedication to the community and loved ones will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Gloria was a good friend of my mother Jenny Pon at University. I remember my mom fondly mentioning Gloria and as a young child i visited her house or her parents house in Rosedale. There was a ship in a bottle in the living room. Mom was in touch with Gloria in the mid 70s. I very much appreciate her friendship to my mom.
