Gloria came into my life almost 30 years ago when my aunt Lisa married her son Brad. Through shared meals, countless special moments and holidays together she became a bonus grandma to my sister Dana and I, and later to my husband Seth and our two kids, Harper and Hudson.
I´ll never forget her smile and the way she dressed. She was always impeccably styled; she loved a blazer, which was always paired with a beautiful brooch, accessories, slacks and a handbag. She was not a jeans and tee shirt kinda gal! She carried herself with such grace and class. Ethereal, yet strong and intentional.
The way she made me feel every time I was with her is something I´ll always hold dear in my heart. She made me feel special, like I was the most important person in the room, always giving me her full and undivided attention. She made everyone that had the privilege of spending time with her feel the same way because her family, friends, community were everything to her.
She was a great conversationalist and always wanted to hear what I was up to, all while holding my hand. One of my favorite memories of her was a piece of advice she gave me about being a parent. She told me that you have to let your kids make their own mistakes. While it´s sometimes difficult to watch, it´s crucial for them to not only make their own choices but their own mistakes and to not interfere because that´s how they learn and grow.
We had shared joy in teasing her beloved Victor about what a troublemaker he is. She lit up every time her grandsons Aidan and Austin were around and spending so much time with the Macks, you knew just how much Victor, Brad, Lisa and the boys meant to her.
Suffice to say, Gloria made a profound impact on my life and leaves behind a distinct imprint in my heart. I´ll always be grateful for the special memories and milestones in my life that had Her in them.
