Gloria Wines Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2025.
Gloria Mae (Reid) Wines peacefully passed away on November 18, 2025, at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA having endured a lengthy term with kidney disease. "Glo" as she was called by family and many friends, was born September 15, 1938, to the late Matthew and Nannie Scott Reid. She was the eighth of 13 siblings: Brothers Matthew Jr, Reginald, James, Wilmer, Welby (all deceased), and Allen; Sisters Julia Wilson, Dorothy Tines, Helen Lane, Christine, Garnet, and Grace Reid (all deceased). Gloria married Percy Wines, who preceded her in death. That union bore two sons Lamont and Carlos (deceased).

Gloria attended Willisville primary school and Douglas High School. She and Percy married in 1958 but later divorced after 20 years. She lived and led a full life in Maryland. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and sang in their praise team. She often visited churches with family--especially "Rock Hill" church homecomings. She returned to Virginia often to spend time with her siblings and their families, and to attend many social gatherings and events.

Gloria worked at Drug Fair and later retired after 20 years as a school bus driver for Arlington County public schools. She enjoyed watching her favorite soap operas, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She loved getting her hair and nails done regularly and was stylishly dressed when stepping out. She was a dutiful member of the Housekeeping Club at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Aldie, VA. Until health issues slowed her down, she was active and always on the go.

Gloria leaves to mourn her son Lamont of Clinton, MD; brother Allen Reid of Merrifield, VA; 3 Brother in-laws; 2 Sister in laws; "Stepfather" Carl Prince; 5 Grandchildren: Brett Anthony Payne, Derek Wines, Brandon Wines, Desiree Roberts-Wines, Mary La'Sha Burks; 15 great-grandchildren Natalie, Taylor, and Sidney Wines; A'lani Robert's-Wines; Rowan, Noa, and Uriah Loudin; Brett "Peanut" Payne Jr., Nevaeh and James Payne; Kiehlie Bodge; Izabella Gaumer; Zaya Burks, and Tyren Gay (Deceased). She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family, and special friends Kathleen Pope, Shelley Roseboro, and Carolyn Grayson.

Visitation will be held from 11-12 p.m. Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Marshall, Va on Dec. 5, 2025. Funeral will begin at 12. Burial will follow in the Westview Cemetery.
