DEWAR- It is with sadness the family of Gordon Marshall Dewar announces his passing on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Extendicare Nursing Home at the age of 94. He was born on October 5, 1910 at Indian Head SK to Edith and John Dewar. He was the third of seven children. He was predeceased by his parents, his siblings and his wife Doris. Gordon will be deeply missed by his children Terry (Georgina) Dewar of Sherwood Park AB, Sharon (Wayne) Milne of Saskatoon SK and Marilyn (Bob) Ruthven of Sherwood Park AB, seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Gordon was a dedicated, hardworking individual who enjoyed life and all it had to offer. He joined the Royal Bank of Canada in 1930 and worked as a bank manager throughout Saskatchewan for a total of 51 years. He retired in 1970 but continued to work as a relief manager part-time for the next 10 years. On June 30, 1942, Gordon joined the army in Regina working as a paymaster until his discharge on May 31, 1946. He and Doris Arnold were married in Indian Head SK in 1941 and were married for 59 years. Upon retirement they moved to the Montgomery area of Saskatoon where they enjoyed their first home. Gardening, wine making, painting, woodworking and carving, building furniture for family and friends was a favorite pastime of Gordon's. He enjoyed family and friends and a good game of bridge. They spent winter months in Victoria BC and enjoyed fishing and working on the cabin at Lower Fishing Lake in northern Saskatchewan. Dad volunteered for the Red Cross, United Church, and Legion in the community where they were living. In 2000, both Doris and Gordon's health deteriorated and they needed more assistance. Mom passed away in October 2000 and dad moved into Special Place Two Special Care Home. In December 2001, he moved again into Extendicare. The family would like to extend sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of the dedicated and compassionate staff of Extendicare who have cared for Gordon throughout the past three and a half years.
