Gordon Ellis Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from May 30 to Jun. 1, 2009.

ELLIS Gordon (Gordy) Ralph On May 26, 2009 longtime Richmond resident Gordon (Gordy) Ralph Ellis gently departed from this life and entered eternity at the age of 71 years young. Gordon is celebrated by wife of 51 years Judy, sons Randy (Tracey), James (Jonathan), Bill (Rym), Marie (Mike), grandsons Travis, Connor, Brendan and Aidan, sisters Betty-Lou and Shirley. Known as "Figaro" at King Ed High, Gordy went on to play with the Vancouver Junior Blue Bombers which inspired his legacy for family, community and sport. His passions for coaching, mentoring, and volunteering will be carried on for generations. Gordy's contributions to the Richmond community consisted of longtime involvement in the Kinsmen Club, Richmond Sister City Committee, Tourism Richmond and he was the first recipient of the 2000 Volunteers Are Stars Award. Gordy also helped establish the "Working Poor Fund" through the Elrock Golf Tournament. Gordy's family would like to say a special thank-you to the nurses at 3 North and 3 South at Richmond Hospital for their compassion and dedicated care. As the sun set and twilight embraced the mountains, Gordon took his last breath in the arms of his loving wife Judy, surrounded by the love of his family. A celebration of Gordy's life will take place Wednesday, June 10 at 1:00pm at the Ukranian Community Hall, 5311 Francis Rd. Richmond BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gordy's memory for the purchase of a new MRI machine at Richmond Hospital at www.richmondhospitalfoundation.com

Gord, the times we shared together with the Sister City Committee and our fun trip to Japan will remain with me as happy memories.
You always brightened my day when you came to visit me at Richmond City Hall. I feel very privileged to have been a part of your life.

Auntie Judy and Family, Wish I could be there for you all its a shame that we are so far apart. But I have so many special memories of my Uncle Gordy that I will always have in my heart. I will miss him my one and only uncle in our small family. I love you all.

Judy and the family; I am very sorry for our loss,
Gordy has been a great friend since we met at King Ed about 58 years ago. We went through the
SIOM initiation together, sat in the same home room, and have been in touch ever since. Gordy was a special guy and will be missed by all that new him, especially his friends on the King Ed Grad Committee.

I haven't seen Gordie in a number of years but I still remember his wit and creative sense of humour. Especially the guided tour of the engine room on CP Ferries trip to the Kin Club in Ladysmith. Jane and I offer our sympathy to Judy and the family.

Although I had not seen Gordy for many years I still have good memories of our times at King Ed. As an old SIOM club member myself I can only say we had loads of fun. My sypathys to the family.
