Dear Maxine: You probably don't remember me but I worked for Gord when I first joined Gulf in 1964. I was very sorry to hear of his passing. He was of great help to me early in my career. You might remember inviting me to your home in Toronto when I was on strike duty at Clarkson Refinery in 1965. The hospitality of both of you at the time was much appreciated. My sincere sympathy to you and your family.

I remember Gordon (and Maxine) for boundless hospitality, warm hearts and beautiful flowers. In the seventies, Gordon created a little bit of Holland in his back yard in Calgary, a notable task at 3500 feet above sea level.
Gordon was always smiling, never depressed. He had enthusiasm for everything and the earth is diminished by his passing. He was at his best in his love for Maxine and his children. Then, came his grandchildren and I know that he loved them with an equal devotion. My expressions of deepest sympathy go to Maxine and all of the family.
I remember always that when Gordon's father passed away, he spoke of symbols of that passing. Now, he will be re-joined with his father and mother.

We will remember Gordon when the flowers bloom, his gardens were beautiful. So many happy times we spent at family gatherings. Forever willing to impart his knowledge and guidance without reserve, we will miss him. Our sincere sympathy wishes to Maxine and her family

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our very dear friend, Gordon. Our times together were times of fun, frolic and a lot of joy. He has left a big empty spot in our hearts and our love goes out to Maxine and his loving family. Sending much love and affection.

In loving memory of Gordon Hollingshead, from his second son, Brian.
You had so much to give the world and so little time.
I thought you would live forever - you were always so strong. Strong in body, spirit and mind. And you mastered your strength within a caring and gentle nature. Sometimes I feared you. Sometimes I ran to you. Be sure that I always respected you.
A boy learns much from his father - industry, integrity, charity. These and loyalty and dedication to purpose I learned from you. Your life was your lesson, as you lived your principles daily. Never want to flourish a careless or wasteful moment, nor cover a truth, you were responsible and mature, with resolute devotion to your family.
There was never a time in my life when I felt alone, nor that I couldn't call on you for a hand. And countless times I took your hand when you offered. You demonstrated the truest meaning of love. I hope I can live up to your example.
I honor the time we spent together, especially in my adult years - the conversations by mail, the projects we undertook, the lessons in life, music, science, carpentry, electronics, mathematics. Your mastery inspired me. I was always proud of my dad.
Abide peacefully now you’re at rest, and we will meet again across the great divide. God bless you.
