Painted Post - Gordon C. Loomis, age 92 of Painted Post passed away on Tuesday August 29, 2023 at Corning Hospital.

Born on July 27,1931 in Bath, NY he was the son of Clinton Floyd and Ethlyn Drake Loomis of Campbell, NY. Gordon was a graduate of Campbell High School where he played basketball and baseball. Gordon was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Army. Upon his return home from Korea, Gordon began work in construction building homes and working with his brother Duane Loomis. He married Alyce Hall Loomis the daughter of Roy E. (Ted) Hall and Doryce Scudder Hall on June 23, 1956. Shortly after their marriage he went to work for his in-laws at Hall's Hardware in Painted Post, NY and continued his work there providing assistance and advice to the community of Painted Post as the handy, helpful hardware man until his retirement.

Gordon had many hobbies in spite of his limited available spare time. Among them Gordon enjoyed the game of golf and was a charter / founding member of Indian Hills Golf Club. He actively participated in the construction of the original 9 holes and later its expansion to the current 18 holes. He was an active club member for many years. He was a member of the Glen Region SCCA working events at the Watkins Glen race track and competing in Solo II events with his hand constructed dune buggy. His favorite hobby was radio-controlled airplanes. He constructed over 100 planes, flying them, and encouraging others to take up the hobby. Gordon was an avid DIYer and supervised numerous home construction and remodeling projects for the family. He served as a Deacon for the First Baptist Church of Painted Post and as a member of the Painted Post Board of Trade and Merchants Association. He loved ice cream and a road trip to find his favorite flavor, Chocolate Moose Tracks.

Gordon's greatest passion was his family. His son Steven (Tanya) Loomis of Pulteney, NY, daughter Susan (Stephen) Bliss of Savona, NY and grandchildren Alisa (James) Laska of Chesapeak Beach, MD, Sherry (Kevin) Moison of Painted Post, and Ian (Siobhain) Loomis of Painted Post and great grandchildren Caleb and Isabel Laska and Noah Moison.

In addition to his parents Gordon was predeceased by his daughter Susan in 2017, and brother Duane in 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Alyce. Together they shared a life of hard work, love and devotion to each other and their families.

At the request of the Loomis family there will be no services, a private celebration of life will be held at a later date convenient to the family. Haughey Funeral Home has been entrusted with Gordon's care.
