QUINN _ Gordon James "Jim" It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Gordon James "Jim" Quinn of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, who passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at the age of 69 years. Jim was born on November 14, 1934 in a coal mining community called M & S Mine, Southeast of Estevan, Saskatchewan. After finishing high school and a year of working in the mine, he attended Notre Dame College for three years and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1961, while working for Continental Emsco Co. Ltd., Jim was transferred to Red Deer for what was to be only a six month transfer. Jim decided he wanted to stay in Red Deer and opened Quinn's Oilfield Supply Ltd. in 1965. Jim built a thriving business from the ground up which became a very successful business in Red Deer, Western Canada, and Internationally. Jim married Anne Milne from Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1959 and had three children, Traci, Leslie, and Doug. Anne passed away in 1976, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was well-known for his involvement in the community. He sat on numerous boards, some of which were the 1975 Alberta Summer Games Committee, Parkland Industries Ltd., 1993/1994 Red Deer Regional Hospital Capital Campaign, Red Deer College Board of Governors and over the years was a member of the Rotary Club and served as president on the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce and the Red Deer Golf and Country Club (twice). Jim was also the founding member of the Red Deer Oilfield Technical Society. In 1990, Jim married Bea Krogh. They enjoyed golfing, being with friends and traveling wherever their motorhome led them. In the winter of 1993, they first headed south for a brief holiday to miss some of Alberta's winter. They were hooked. Jim and Bea enjoyed spending their winters in their Palm Desert home. Jim loved sports and could often be found in his den cheering on his favorite team whether that was hockey, football, baseball or others. As a kid, he had played numerous sports including baseball, football and hockey. He especially enjoyed watching his son play hockey and now his Calgary Flames. In 1995, Jim retired from Quinn's and started his new full time job - playing golf. Jim tried to golf every day and has played numerous courses throughout Canada and the United States.
