It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon (Gordie) George Raine. Surrounded by those he loved, he passed away April 23, 2015 in St. Joseph's Hospice after a lengthy illness. Born in Sioux Lookout, on August 3, 1954; his family moved to Port Arthur in the early 60's. He married his childhood sweetheart in 1977 and together they raised their family in Shuniah Township where they still reside. Gord started working in the forest industry at a young age. He owned and operated his own logging company for 28 years; after that he went out West to work in the oil fields. Gord was happiest on road trips with his family and slashing in Northern Ontario. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tending his garden, growing giant pumpkins, working in his garage and civil war history gave him great pleasure. A quiet, pensive man, known for his witt and sense of humour. He had an unwavering duty to his family and friends. Asking nothing in return, he would aid a friend in need, knowing they would do the same. For those he chose as friends, he saw as brothers. Gord was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Opal; infant sister Joanne, and brother Garry. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sherry, children Kelly (Eric), Steven and Keith, grandchildren Elyn, Kathryn and Lily, sister June and Tammie, and numerous nieces and nephews. A "Celebration of Life" will be held Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 1-4 pm at Current River Community Centre in Thunder Bay. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice can be made. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 332 North May Street, Thunder Bay.

Dearest Raine Family. My heartfelt sympathies go out to each and everyone of you. I recall Gordon as a heart throb and outgoing and smiling and winning his love Sherry. My sorrow goes to her especially as losing a husband must be very devastating. God bless you and heal your heart and through this process know that there is no pain endured by Gordon now only peace in Heaven. May God be with you always and forever.
