Mr. Rutledge was the epitome of the great man. He was a fabulous educator and friend. He never forgot his students or their parents. He even attended their retirement parties. One of the best gifts of friendship I enjoyed with him. I enjoyed talking with him as we shopped for groceries and I loved that he always asked about my husband and children. Mr. Rutledge was highly respected and I pray that you all find peace in knowing that the lessons he taught us will always be remembered. We loved him and pray for you all. Pat Coffman

Mr. R. was very special in so many ways. I am so glad I was a part of his Layne faculty where he took care of all the children, and was truly a family oriented person. He was always there when someone needed him. Rest in peace, dear friend--you deserve it.

I was privileged to be Gordon Rutledge's first secretary at Layne School. I worked for him for seven years and saw first hand the love he had for all of his students. He truly was a man who will be missed by many people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Carol Jones
