Gordon Wallace Solnes

Gordon Wallace Solnes September 11, 1930 - April 15, 2013 Gordon passed away peacefully at Sunrise Senior Living with his family by his side.

He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Hanna Solnes, his brother Norman and sister Mildred Bultz. Surviving are his sister, Bernice Weninger, his brother Boyd (Rita), his wife, Iris, his son, Michael (Sandra), two daughters, Carla Birston (Harold) and Andrea Solnes, and three grandchildren: Julian, Nigel and Ella Ching.

Gordon grew up on a farm near the town of Dominion City, Manitoba where he worked as assistant grain buyer. He enjoyed all sports and was an active participant in hockey, baseball, curling and golf. His love of music led him to teach himself to play saxophone, and he continued to play the instrument in small orchestras and dance bands until recent times.

He began his lifetime career in the financial field as an insurance agent, eventually moving to Vancouver as Branch Manager with Montreal Life. In 1974, exemplifying the vision and leadership that was characteristic of his career, he struck out on his own to form Solguard Financial Ltd, one of the first independent financial brokers in the country.

Gordon was a loving, wise and gentle man who brought a discerning vision, positive attitude, and remarkable dedication and skill to everything he did. Whether it was in his role as husband, father, grandfather, businessman, church worker, or coach, he was looked to as a strong, capable and compassionate leader. He will be missed deeply, and carried in hearts and minds forever as an extraordinary man.

A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at St. David's United Church, Taylor Way and Upper Levels Highway, on Monday, April 29th, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at Capilano Golf and Country Club, 420 Southborough Drive, West Vancouver, at 3:00 p.m.
