Grace S. Coddington died on August 28, 2016 after a long and joyful life.

She is the daughter of the late Delona Stevens and Ada Belle Tunison Stevens of Somerville, NJ. Born in Somerville February 10, 1918, her brothers, Roy Stevens (former Chief of Police of Somerville), Lloyd Stevens, Harry Stevens, and her sister Lillian S. Wissert have predeceased her.

Grace is predeceased by her beloved husband, William R. Coddington. Mr. and Mrs. Coddington were devoted to each other; their 56 years of marriage were extremely happy ones. They had shared values, loyalty to one another, and many wonderful experiences together.

Grace was active raising her children and participated in community activities and clubs. She worked for several years at The Liberty Tree in Turntable Junction, Flemington. She was active in the Martinsville Methodist Church and has been a member of the South Branch Reformed Church since 1961, serving on the Consistory for some years. She has been a member of the Neshanic Garden Club since 1963, serving in several offices including President for two terms. One of her fondest roles was responsibility for providing 'Wit and Wisdom' for the Garden Club. Grace is a member of the Basking Ridge Chapter, DAR. She was an avid reader, enjoyed travel, rug-hooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed playing Bridge, gardening, and raising and showing their Morgan Horses. She was among the first members of the New Jersey Morgan Horse Association, where her husband was one of the founders.

Grace, originally from Somerville, NJ also lived in Martinsville, Neshanic Station, near Flemington, and in Tewksbury Township, NJ. The last few years she has been dividing her time between Fort Myers, FL and Easton, PA. She has three children, Gary L. Coddington, Keith A. Coddington and Karen C. Swart. She has nine grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12 noon Thursday beginning with a visitation at 10:30am at the Bruce Van Arsdale Funeral Home, 111 North Gaston Ave. Somerville, NJ. Interment will follow at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Cemetery in Warren.

Hi Gary and Keith and Karen,
I am saddened to hear of your mother's passing, but I know she lived a rich, full life. I just happened upon her obituary three days ago as I was perusing the Hunterdon Democrat online.
Gary and Keith, you may remember me. My name is Ken Stillwell, son of Art and Betty Stillwell. Gary, you and I used to play together when our parents visited. You came to our farm in Ringoes (and before that our house in North Branch) and we visited you in Martinsville. Our fathers were interested in farming and I believe our mothers went to high school and perhaps nurse's training together.
Keith, you were about my sister Susan's age so I don't remember you as well as Gary who is almost my age (now 74), but I do remember you because you tagged along with Gary and me. Karen came along later, but I do remember her being born. My parents too had a third child, Beth, who is 16 years my junior.
Eventually our families drifted apart and the visits stopped, but evidently your mom and my mom stayed in touch throughout their lives. I didn't know this until my mother died in 2000 at age 82. I got a phone call one day from a woman identifying herself as Grace Coddington. You could have knocked me over with a feather. She shared her condolences, and we had a lovely chat about family and old times. As I recall your father Bill had passed by then, perhaps not too long before. But your mom caught me up on you guys and recounted a few things about my mother.
Strangely enough, your mother then lived very near me over on Bissell Road, only a couple miles from my place in Cokesbury. We talked about a visit, but I, sadly now, never followed through. But your mom's phone call to me explained why my mother all her life knew what your mother was doingthey had stayed in touch.
So I hope all is well with each of you. Our family has been blessed and all is well here. Again, my condolences to you and stay well. With great affection, Ken Stillwell

I met Grace and Bill when I baby sat for their 3 children. My uncle Bob Byrne was in their wedding. Many years later, I worked with Karen on the Martinsville book, and got to meet Grace again. The same wonderful smile and grace that I remembered. So fortunate for her family and friends that she lived such a long life...
