Grace Judd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 5, 2017.
Grace Ann Judd was born on September 19, 1913 in Cheboygan, Michigan to the late Ted and Edith Chimner. She passed away on June 3, 2017 in Livonia, Michigan at the age of 103.

A loving caring woman, Grace dedicated her life to her family and serving others. While her children were young she was known as the "Kool-Aid" mom of the neighborhood. All the kids would gather at the Judd home and Grace would look after them like they were her own. She also served as Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout troop and was an active participant in the Catholic Central High School Mothers' Club.

A charitable spirit, she was active in many local organizations. She was a member of the Detroit Peace Community and printed the newsletter for the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan right from her kitchen table. Her true passion was achieved later in life. As a child she loved everything to do with the circus and was enamored with them when they would come through town, so in her early 70s she achieved a lifelong dream of becoming a clown. She graduated clown school and joined Clowns Around Redford as Dilly the clown. Grace loved all the charitable activities she got to do with Clowns Around Redford from being in several Thanksgiving Day Parades to volunteering at the Special Olympics or any other charity involving children. She loved to put a smile on their faces.

A devout Catholic, Grace was an active member of her church communities throughout her life. She served as a Eucharistic Minister while at SS. Peter and Paul Church (West side) and later at St. Theodore Church in Westland. She was very involved in the Divorced and Separated Catholic Group at St. Columban and while at St. Theodore she found friends within the Senior Plus Group.

Grace found the key to staying young was to keep moving. She was always on the go whether it be shooting baskets in her driveway, swimming, bowling or walks outside. The life of the party, she could often be found dancing to the music and was usually one of the last to leave any event. A social butterfly, she enjoyed traveling with family, friends and church groups. She went to many places throughout the US and the world including cruises to Alaska, Italy, Greece and a pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Grace was the cherished wife of the late Dwight "Duke" Judd. Loving mother of the late Richard Judd, the late Doris Judd, the late Ralph Judd, and the late Ann Judd. Surviving children include Fr. Gordon Judd, CSB, Mary Jane (Rick) Dawson, Thomas (Lou Anne) Judd. Proud grandmother of the late Timothy Judd, Gordon (Andrea) Judd, Linda (Bill) Sanders, Jim (Melinda) Baird, Scot (Debbie) Baird, Jason (Rachel) Baird, Stephani (Erik) LaBelle, Sarah Judd, Kathleen (Richard) Pojeta and Kara Judd: Also, great-grandmother of 21. Dear sister of Francis (Zay) Chimner, the late Ethel Donovan, the late Clinton Chimner and the late Helen Krause.

Grace's family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday June 11, 2017 from 3-8 pm with a Scripture Service at 7 pm at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd. (east of Newburgh and I-275) in Livonia.

Her life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass on Monday June 12, 2017 at 10:30 am, with in state 10 am, at St. Mary Cause of Our Joy Catholic Church (formerly St. Theodore), 8200 N Wayne Rd. (south of Joy Rd) in Westland.

Grace will be laid to rest on Tuesday June 13, 2017 at 11 am at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Southfield.

I loved Grace's spunky personality. She shared the same dining room table with my dad while he was a resident at Marywood. We felt like she was part of the family. Rest in Peace

Grace will truly be missed by my husband Rick and I, as well as her children, which includes my brother-in-law Tom, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was definitely an Amazing Grace! I actually danced with her at the Italian Club in Livonia, when she was 97 years old!

I have very good memories of her as being a part of the Clowns Around Redford group. When the clown newsletter would come out, I would always read her column first. She had a unique perspective of life. I learned a lot from her and have always kept a special place in my heart for her. I will miss her. God bless the greiving family and friends. May God comfort them in their loss. She will surely be missed.

So sorry for your loss. Losing your Mom is a special kind of pain that only time can lessen. Thankfully we know our loved ones will always be with us but in another dimension. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers in this most difficult time.

Fond memories of Grace. She was always so caring about what was happening with you and always a smile and generous greeting when she saw you. Her energy was infectious. Our hearts go out to all her family May they all be blessed with many happy memories and know that her energy and love will always be with them. With love, hugs and prayers the Seguin family.
