My condolences to the family. I have such wonderful memories of Grady at the Lufkin Fire Dept 1952-1955 when we had only one station.
He worked 'paid' several nights (or weekend) at what was called an "Extra Man" at the station and as a regular Volunteer the rest of the time. I was a paid fireman even though I was only 16 and lied about my age.
Grady was about 14 years older than me and was a prankster and a fun guy. He (and several other fireman) played guitar and other instruments and he had a special knack for singing funny limerick type songs that didn't go where it sounded like they would go.
The Fire Dept didn't have the ambulance service and we had more spare time on our hands for foolishness.
A great man has passed on leaving fond memories behind.
