Graeme Dibbs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 16 to Jul. 18, 2006.
DIBBS, Graeme John August 2, 1949 ~ July 13, 2006 On July 13, 2006 our beloved Graeme passed away at home in Edmonton at 56 years of age. We will miss his strength, his wit, his talent, his love--and his wheel. Cherishing our treasured memories of Graeme are his wife Marcy; his sons, Jason (Kristin Huss) and Aaron (Ashley Neumann) and their mother Carmen Dibbs in Devon; in Australia his sister and brother-in-law Pat and Tony Atkin, his uncle Jack and aunt Margaret Opper, as well as his nieces, nephew and cousins; his stepdaughter Jessica Geraghty (Brian) in Chicago; his stepson Garreth Davies (Kenna Manley) in Vancouver. Graeme was predeceased by his parents, Anthony Charles and Elsie Joyce Dibbs, his uncle Lindsay and aunt Nina Opper. Graeme was born in Sydney Australia and studied Agriculture there at James Ruse, but a chance film editing course led him eventually to Canada and a lifelong career spent primarily at Global Edmonton, where he most recently held the position of Senior Writer/Producer/Director in Creative Services. He was a keen woodworker, fly-fisherman and cyclist. During his tenure as president and as a long-time member of the Edmonton Masters Cycling Club, he made many contributions to grow the sport of bicycle racing and received the ABA President's Award in 2002. He held especially dear the friendships he made through bicycle racing, touring and commuting, and his almost 30 years at Global. A Memorial Service will be held at Connelly-McKinley ~ Edmonton Chapel, 10011 - 114 Street on Wednesday, July 19 at 10 a.m. Friends who so wish may make memorial donations to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 - University Avenue Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2, or the charity of their choice. Dear Marcy,

Since receiving Graeme's email just mid-June, I've been praying for you both; whenever prompted to.

God's Grace has carried you this far, & He will get you through this.

I want you to know that in just our short time together back in August 1999, I came to know you two have something very special.

And even Graeme's passing cannot take that away, ever.

Allow Father God to carry you, both in person, & through friends & family.

You two are owed much, by so many.

When the time is right, I'd love to hear from you.

I too count it a great priviledge to have known Graeme as a close friend.

Love,

Noel Brettoner

Marcy, I'm so sorry to hear of Graeme's passing. It was a pleasure to know him and to benefit from the many lasting contributions he made to our cycling community. Sorry I could not be there to pay tribute in person as we are in Ontario this month. I hope to be back for the memorial ride.

Marcy and Family,

I had the privilege of working with Graeme for 13 years at ITV, Apple Box, and Global. He had a special way of saying my name that I will never forget. Just as I will never forget from my craft services days (and that's a LONG time ago) if you want to make Graeme happy serve Trail Mix and fresh fruit (if you can get Star Fruit all the better). Graeme touched many lives in positive and funny little ways. I wish you could hear stories of them all. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
