Graham VAUGHAN Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald on May 19, 2017.
VAUGHAN, Graham Andrew
August 14, 1951 - May 15, 2017
Adoring husband, best friend, and loyal companion for 32 years to Kathy (nee Price), passed away peacefully at home, embraced by his family who loved him so much. Graham is survived by his wife Kathy, their children Michael and Erin, his son Thomas and stepdaughter Brigette. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cole and Brock. Graham was predeceased by his parents Marguerite and Jack. Graham is also survived by many extended family members. Graham and Kathy met through their work with Air Canada. Graham left Air Canada after 17 years and started a business with his brother-in-law Tobin, whom he worked with up until 3 weeks before his passing. Graham's favorite places to visit were Maui and Mara Lake. He loved Maui so much that he invested in 3 condos at the "Whaler" on Kaanapali beach, and in 2003 became the first Canadian to join the Whaler Board of Directors. Serving on the board from 2005 - 2012 as Vice President and as President in 2013 until his passing. He was fondly known as "Mr. President" by his Maui Ohana. Graham was an incredibly laid back, genuine human being and a true gentleman. The only time he ever got riled, was when his favorite Chicago Blackhawks were losing and the whole neighborhood would know it. He had a rare gift of public speaking to either 10 people or 1,000. He was fair, never judgmental of anyone, a peace maker and a true hero to many. Most of all he was kind to everyone he crossed paths with and never once complained about anything to do with his illness. He will be greatly missed by his special sister-in-law Colleen, who stopped by for many afternoon visits where she and Graham would take great joy teasing Kathy about her many idiosyncrasies. Graham will also be very much missed by his dog Luna, who he walked at all hours of the day to keep his grass green and by his cat Kitkat who always wanted to be on his lap. Graham kept himself in tip top shape with many long bike rides and walks in Maui and Mara Lake. His guilty pleasure was anything bachelor/bachelorette. Special mention to our son Mike, who was by his Dad's side 24/7, giving unconditional love and always involved in every aspect of care that was needed for dad in hospital and at home. Our family would like to thank the many caring, loving hands and thoughtful gestures that helped us through this most difficult time. All are welcome to attend the Celebration of Life for our "Extraordinary" Graham, which will be held at the Glencoe Club, Monday May 29 from 13:00 - 16:00. Hawaiian dress is encouraged. Flowers are gratefully declined but if desired, donations can be made to the Calgary Humane Society or a charity of choice. For online condolences please go to

So sorry to hear of Graham's passing. I worked with him and Tobin for many years through the Calgary Stampeders. He was a true Stampeder fan with a deep emotional attachment to the team. He gave me a Saskatchewan Roughrider flag that I took to the Cook Islands and displayed on the beach when they won the Grey Cup in 2013. He shall be truly missed in the licensed sports industry.

Kathy and family, it is so hard to express my sadness in the passing of Graham. I am hopeful that all the great memories we shared at YYC and OGG will keep us smiling and remembering his smile and laughter. I will hold the Blackhawks banner in Graham's honor and yes I will continue to scream as he would as well during the losses. He knew my dedication was "almost" as strong as his. He was a great man and friend. How blessed we all are to have had him in our lives. Lots of love to you all as you work through this loss. DJ Debbie Williams

Dear Kathy and Family:

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time...Graham's time came way too soon. As a co-worker he was great and and as our Union rep at work we were very lucky to have him. He was fair, non judgemental and with intelligence and class set forth our concerns always maintaining grace under fire. He was a real gentleman. I was very lucky to count myself a personal friend of his as well and have fond memories of your time together as a family. He was truly one of a kind.

Dear Kathy, Michael and Erin...
I am stunned and so profoundly sad... but certainly no more than you or anyone who has known Graham. I will miss him at The Whaler and so appreciated all the work he had done in his involvement with the complex. You are in my heart in your sorrow.
