Grant Sherwin Grant David Sherwin, 24, of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Hennepin County Medical Center after a courageous six-week battle with a rare central nervous system infection. With his parents by his side, Grant took his final breath in a moment filled with love, after sharing one last "group hug."

Born on April 12, 2000, in Wichita, KS, to John and Heather Sherwin, Grant moved to Rochester at a young age and embraced Minnesota as his true home. He spent his childhood exploring the woods, fields, and Zumbro River near Bamber Valley, developing a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Grant played many sports throughout his youth and baseball into high school, while also excelling academically. His sharp mind and love of history, science, and geography led to many trophies in high school Quiz Bowl competitions.

After graduating from Mayo High School in 2018, Grant attended the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, earning a B.S. in Accounting in 2023. He went on to work as an accountant at Catholic Eldercare Senior Community in Minneapolis, where he built meaningful connections with both colleagues and residents.

Grant's presence in the lives of those who knew him was unforgettable. He had a rare gift for conversation, effortlessly connecting with anyone he met. He found joy in Minnesota's extreme weather, never shying away from the cold, and was a devoted fan of professional sports--especially the Kansas City Chiefs, Royals, and NCAA March Madness. His love of fishing took him to the most unexpected places, where he had a knack for reeling in impressive bass. Most of all, Grant cherished his family and pets (his beloved cats, Neko and Alfie). The memory of his sense of humor and spontaneous trips home--whether for dinner, to watch an NFL game, or simply to say hello--leaves a void that can never be filled.

Grant is survived by his loving parents, John and Heather Sherwin of Faribault; his papa, Michael Willard of Rochester; his grandfather, David Sherwin of Montgomery, TX; his aunts, Kristen Sherwin of Dallas, TX, and Tracey Willard of Clearwater, FL (Rowen Suarez); and his cousins, Arianna and Aiden Jones of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Barbara Willard and Nancy Sherwin, and aunt, Heidi Jones.

A private family gathering and interment will take place on a warm summer day, with some of Grant's ashes scattered in the places he loved most. In Grant's honor, memorials may be directed to the Rochester Police Athletic League's Shop with a Cop program, where Grant volunteered for many years, or to a charity of your choice.

Grant's warmth, humor, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
