Granville Phillips Obituary

Granville "G.L." Phillips, 88, Plant City, formerly of Daytona Beach and Welch, W. Virginia, went to his heavenly home on Friday, September 5, 2008. A service in his honor will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Daytona Chapel of the Lohman Funeral Home. Mr. Phillips was born in Virginia and spent most of his life serving his community of Welsh, West Virginia. He dedicated his talents and skills as an entrepreneur, leaving a legacy with G.L Phillips Companies which had a Residential and Commercial Construction base. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Lions Club Int., Kiwanis Club Int., Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Moose, and the Shriners. Mr. Phillips was a man of many musical talents playing percussion and base in his early days with the Big Band and Good Country sound and later sang gospel at various churches and retirement homes. He came to Daytona Beach with his wife after his retirement and later joined his daughter in Plant City. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Eva M. Phillips (2001) and a grandson, Mark S. Miller (2004). He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughters, Linda (Donald E.) Davis and Patricia P. (Lee E.) Marvin; three granddaughters, Kimberly (Steve) Chance, Janet (Trevor) McKay, and Rebecca (Timothy) Keating; and 12 great-grandchildren. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.lohmanfuneralhomes.com. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Lohman Funeral Home Daytona.
