Greg was widely admired in our MBA programme for his wit, prose and zeal for living life to the full. Knowing Greg has made my own life a richer experience, intellectually and spiritually, and I am grateful. To his family – thank you for sharing your son and brother with us. His life touched many people.

Greg – what a sense of humor, definitely a fashion king, and always quick with a kind word. Many of us at Grant MacEwan remember you fondly - especially Community Relations. Our yearly retreats were always the high of the year and Greg definitely added to the party and chaos. I treasure all the kind notes we passed between each other. You will be missed - your smile and sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.

Greg did everything with panache and style. He was born on February 29th; a fitting day for someone for whom humour was such a big part of who he was. He left us on December 25th; a fitting day for someone whose life was such a gift to all those who had the good fortune to know him. He will be forever remembered and missed.

It was quite a shock to hear about Greg. He was such a good guy, and for the relatively short period of time that I worked with him in Government Studies, he made it so much fun. He will truly be missed. He'll always be "the kid".

It was with great sadness that I recently became aware of Greg's passing. Greg and I worked closely together at Sklar Wilton. He had a strong sense of compassion, always concerned about others, and finding ways to brighten peoples day - whether through a humourous joke, or a tray of yummy cookies, he always sought to make people smile.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Greg brought joy and humanity into the pressure cooker of our MBA programme. Despite many late nights of study and debate, he was always keen to explore our spiritual selves. I trust he is at peace. I wish his family and friends the strength to heal and many happy memories to celebrate his life.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news. I have such fond memories of Greg in class, Greg on the curling rink and Greg hosting parties distributing Dep product to all of the guests...
My deepest condolences to Greg's family.

Greg - I hope you know how much of a difference you made to the people that you touched in your life. Here at the office, your impact is deep and your presence is greatly missed. Your quick wit, your sarcasm, your ready laugh, your honesty and generosity. I feel lucky to have known you.

Uncle Greg- Always bearing a smile and armed with a razor-sharp sense of humour, you transformed any gathering into a party, and a party into a fiesta. You bravely faced any diversity as a challenge and made tackling it look easy.
You were an inspiration to me, and I will truly miss you!

My deepest condolences to Greg's family. I was shocked when I received the news. I met Greg back in 1992 in the MBA program. As he was another person originally from Western Canada we shared a unique bond. I will never forget Greg's energy, enthusiam, and spirit(or the jacket with the buttons). His memory will live forever.

I truly feel blessed to have had the good fortune of knowing Greg. I recently thanked Greg for making me smile each and every time we spoke......and I've heard that same feeling echoed in everyone's memories.
Greg, I for one loved your blue suede shoes and I will miss you deeply.
Heaven is lucky to have you. God Bless.

Dear Affolder family,
I felt I was lucky, several years ago, to have Greg as a Client at Sklar Wilton. He brought such energy, imagination and creativity to his work. He never settled for the predictable. And he treated others with true humanity - as his friends and peers (not 'clients' or 'suppliers').
I will never forget Greg's warmth and vitality and will be there to remember his life and his contribution to the lives of others on January 4th.
In the meantime, I send thoughts of love and support to his extended family and dear friends.

Dear Wally, Edna & Family, my condolences for your loss. Our loss.
Greg always made me feel unique - special even. I'm thrilled to see and read that my experience with him was the norm not the exception! Clearly that's how Greg made all of us feel!
I'm very grateful for the mark Greg left on me and for the times we spent together. What a wonderful guy.

We are heartbroken. Greg was a great man who didn't waste a minute of the precious time he was given. He was amazingly generous and creative, and never did anything in half measures. Once I hosted a rather raucous class party during our MBA and to thank me, Greg painted a small watercolour scene of Copper Island in BC. It hangs in my kitchen and now when I look at it reminds me to cherish our friends. In Greg's words: "Spending time with good friends reminds me of what is worthy and timeless in my life". He will be sorely missed.

Wally, Edna, and Linda: We will always cherish the memory of your son and brother as a young man who had vigour for life, and who brought enthusiasm, spontaneity, intelligence, and wit in his persona, that endeared himself to all of us who had the pleasure of meeting him. May God grant you peace and strength at this difficult time to cope with the absence of his physical being, as he was so special to you and to so many others!

Recently, I was contacting some old high school friends living in the Toronto area and retrieved what I believed to be Greg's number. The voice on the machine sounded nothing like the guy I knew 20 years ago and I hung up. The next day I called again and this time left a message asking for a call back if this is Greg Affolder from Edmonton, who would be 40 years of age. He did call back to say it was him, but quickly reminded me that he was only 10!
I am so grateful we had the opportunity to reconnect. Greg impressed me with his sharp mind, quick wit, strength of character and thoughtfulness.
To all of Greg's family and close friends: I know of no words that could possibly comfort you today, but please know that there are many people out there who are keeping you close in thought and who do understand.

Dear Greg -
You inspired me to do my first run for charity; if you could give it your all, how could I not?
Each month I hoped you'd 'hit reply' and say "I'm in for Buz Pulse Lunch"; your presence added so much levity and wisdom
The Thank-you card you sent me after Geneva Park is still on my bulletin board; those few words spoke volumes about taking the time to appreciate others
I will miss your incredible warmth, humour, insight, grape lollipops and green (or are they blue?) suede shoes. I feel priveleged to have known you.

I had the blessing of seeing Greg again recently after 18 years of absence. Greg wrote afterwards "You know, it's amazing how on one hand so much time has gone by and yet on the other we can seemingly pick up right where we left off." I think that was true because of who Greg was and how he taught us to be when he was part of the heart or inspiration of a group of high school/university friends, showing us what it means to live life with zest and how to be a friend. Well done Greg, well done.
Greg will be missed but somehow it doesn't matter how much time will pass, we will be able to "pick up right where we left off" with him in our hearts.
My condolences to all his family and friends.

How saddened we were by the news of Greg's untimely passing. We had just reconnected after many years of not seeing each other and were looking forward to many more reunions with high school friends.
Greg was a wonderful individual, full of humor and warmth. He was a very genuine person and we will miss him terribly.
Greg - I was able to see your bright smile after twenty years and we were able to share many laughs about our youth and many wonderful adventures. I will miss not having the opportunity to continue the sharing and developing new memories.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to your parents, your sister (and her family), and your many close and dear family members and friends.
With all of our love, Ivona and Neil Comba

Greg became a friend...
I was fortunate enough to be the recipient of and bear witness to his jests, his sleazy displays of fashion, his insatiable need for laughter, his words of wisdom, his keen intelligence, his ear, his compassion, his respect and most of all his time... His time was by far his greatest gift as he was not meant to stay with us as long as we would have liked. I think we would all consider ourselves lucky if 'when we pass from this world', it is said that the world was a better place that we were in it. Well, let me be the one to say that the world was definitely a better place because Greg Affolder was in it!
A writ for Greg wouldn't be complete without a touch of levity... and so, on this day many a squirrel mourn the passing of this worthy adversary, and on this day I mourn for my friend, I celebrate his life, and I cherish the time he gave of it, to me.

Greg was always the sunshine of our office. His generosity, positive outlook on every conversation, and his true ability to listen and care about everyone else will be sadly missed.
Everyone Greg has touched has become a better person. Greg will truly live forever since a part of him will always be with us.
We lost a great guy and will have to live with this void and smile when we think of him.
