Mr. Gregory Vernon Boggs, age sixty-three, of Cumberland, KY, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2023, after a short bout with cancer. Greg was at his home, surrounded by those who loved him most, when he stepped into eternity.
The oldest of three children, Greg was born in Lynch, KY on October 18, 1959 to Vernon Boggs and Dolorse Ison. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 1978 and immediately entered the work force as a coal miner. He worked as an underground miner for more than 20 years. On April 14, 1990, Greg married the love of his life, Annetta Combs. He was a quiet, private man who loved his family more than anything. He was a devoted husband and a wonderful father. He immensely enjoyed being outdoors, especially during a rain storm. He liked to kayak, travel, go 4-wheeling, and spend time at the beach. Although fishing wasn’t something he loved to do, he went frequently just so he could spend time with his son, Landon, who did like to fish. Greg was a long time member of the Hiram Pentecostal Church.
Greg is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Boggs; his maternal grandparents, Ted and Della Ison; and his paternal grandparents, Annie and Wash Boggs.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of more than 32 years, Annetta Combs Boggs of Cumberland; his two sons: Landon Boggs of Cumberland and Ryan Boggs and wife, Jessica, of Lynch; two grandchildren, Hunter Boggs of Lynch and Hayley Boggs of Paris, TX; his mother, Dolorse Ison Shelton of Cumberland; his sister, Marsha Hamby and husband, Billy, of Georgetown; a brother, Matthew Shelton and wife, Shoni, of Cumberland; a special niece, Kelly Austin of Totz; as well as a host of extended relatives and many dear friends.
Visitation for Greg will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Tri City Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Sunday, February 12, 2023 at 3:00pm with Brother Glenn Cornett and Reverend Roger Colinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland with family members serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Bluegrass Care Navigators Hospice team, specifically Tiffany, Lisa, and Brittany, whose caring, compassionate assistance was so needed and so appreciated. A huge 'Thank You' also to Greg’s sister, Marsha, who took such excellent care of him while he was at the UK Medical Center and Annetta had to be in Harlan.
Tri City Funeral Home is honored to serve Mr. Greg Boggs’ family.
