So sorry to hear this news about Greg. He was special- smart, personable, compassionate, generous, and a hard worker with incredible energy. While working with him at Valco in the 1980's it was easy to see that his leadership, intelligence and hard work was helping the company grow. (Of course, the company continued to grow for many years to come.) At one point I convinced Greg to attend a "Walk to Emmaus" Christian retreat. A couple years later I told him of my plans to leave Valco and enter Asbury Seminary. Months afterward, he called me into his office and said he had established a full scholarship with the school, then smiled and added that the funds would only be available to former Valco employees. Then he asked if I happened to know anyone. Imagine my grateful surprise! I never heard him mention the scholarship to anyone else, and I can only guess at how many times such incredible generosity was quietly enacted by Greg. The very first day we had met I just immediately liked him, and I'm very thankful to have experienced the blessing of knowing him. Sue, I'm so sorry for your loss, and for that of the whole family as well!
Peace,
Steve Dawson

We were very saddened to just read about Greg's passing.
We met Greg and his crew when we were the Owners of Owls Nest Lodge.
They would buy there supplies and lots of ice when they went to his beloved WEOWNITCAMP on Trout Lake Alban , Ontario.
He was so down to earth and we truly enjoyed his company.
Our sincere condolences to the entire family .
May you RIP

Mr. Amend was my first boss. He hired me to do manual labor on his farms in Liberty Township on Saturdays when I was 13. I´m grateful for the opportunities he gave me to experience doing hard work and the time he took to teach me how to do tasks few boys in the suburbs ever get the chance to learn how to do.

Some of those huge manual labor jobs he gave me could have been done much faster with tractors and modern equipment but I realize now it was worth it to him to wait a bit longer and pay a young boy to sweat his way through that job, build some character and earn a few bucks while building his confidence that he could do big/hard jobs.

Thank you, sir. I haven´t seen you since I was a teenager but I´ll see you in glory one day and get to tell you man to man you made a difference to one nerdy kid.

What a shock to find out that Greg's big, fun personality is no longer with us here on earth. Our sympathies go out to you and the kids, Sue, as you deal with this deep loss.

Oh, my goodness. I was not aware that Greg had passed. I just found out Greg is no longer with us when a check came in the mail this week in memory of Greg Amend.
I met Greg with Brother Scott OFM here at Friars many years ago. We shared Friars good work and Greg discussed how when he slowed down in his work, he would love to become more involved with us. Since meeting him he has supported our golf outing annually. I usually called him, and he was really nice and easy to talk to. I will keep you and the family in our prayers. I will have a candle lit for him at the altar.
Sincerely
Annie Timmons

Greg bought the property next to me in the early 90's, I didn't know much about Greg other than hearing his name. The first time I met him it was just like meeting any regular person on the street, he was friendly and genuine. Only later did I know what a huge influence on the entire community he was, not to mention his position in the business world. Greg was the epitome of what successful people should be, he was never afraid to get his hands dirty to do things he could have easily paid someone else to do, and was always working on something. The entire time I knew Greg, he was always helping someone, whether it was his family, one of his employees or someone in the community. A perfect example was in 2000, I was wanting to build a building on my property that was beyond what the zoning would allow, so I had to apply for a variance. Greg and I had been talking and he asked about the zoning hearing, I told him when it was, and he said he'd attend on my behalf since he was an adjoining property owner. I didn't really think he would be there, I knew how busy the man was and wouldn't have thought differently of him if he didn't, but there he was at the meeting, and I truly believe without his influence, I'd never got approved, but that's the kind of man he was. I had the fortune to have met a lot of Greg's family, and my deepest sympathy goes out to them all for this tremendous loss.

Sometimes you think you know the person in front of you but often you don´t imagine how many things you have missed. I had the pleasure and honor of knowing this Man who left a great mark on me. His sudden and unexpected departure left a great void that will take time to be accepted. Surely many people will miss his presence and his way of being a group. His appeal will remain forever within me.
