McCULLOM LAKE - Gregory L. Empson, 56, of McCullom Lake, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Dec. 6, 1947, in Harrisburg, Ill., to Harold and Annary (Lewis) Empson. He married Jackie L. Bitterman on Sept. 11, 1990, in Las Vegas.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was the manager for Marion Courts Motel in Marion for many years.
Survivors include his wife; a close friend, Jane Dorris; his godchild, Cory Dorris; his mother-in-law, Lou Bitterman of McHenry; two sisters-in-law, Susan (Kenneth) Prazak of Norfork, Ark., and Lois (Grany) Shaver of Glenview; four brothers-in-law, Tom (Anne) Bitterman of McCullom Lake, Frank (Sandy) Bitterman of Stuart, Fla., Robert (Barb) Bittermann of McHenry and James (Linda) Bitterman of Friendship, Wis.; six nephews; 14 nieces; many great-nieces and great-nephews; two uncles, Jesse (the late Lucille) Lewis of West Lake Village, Calif., and John (the late Margaret) Lewis of Carlsbad, Calif.; and an aunt, Anne Campbell of Connecticut.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Richard; and a nephew, Donald.
The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at George R. Justen & amp; Son Funeral Home, 3519 W. Elm St., McHenry. It will continue from 9 a.m. Friday, April 9, until the funeral at 11 a.m. at Weirauch Funeral Home, 211 N. Jackson St., Harrisburg.
Interment will be in Brushy Creek Cemetery in Galatia.
Memorials to the Chicago-Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 600 S. Federal St., Suite 204, Chicago, IL 60605-1806, would be appreciated by the family.
