Gregory Huber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 6, 2024.
Gregory Peter Huber, affectionately known as Greg, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, at the age of 67, following a courageous two-year battle with dementia. Born on June 13, 1957, Greg's life was marked by his dedication to family, his work in human services, and his enduring friendships.

Greg devoted many years of his career to human services, working as a youth care provider. His most recent position in this field was at Norris in Mukwonago, where he made a significant impact on the lives of many young people. Later in life, Greg found joy in his role as a delivery driver for Jimmy John's. This job allowed him to remain active and social, and he cherished the friendships he formed during this time. Earlier in his career, Greg also worked for the Milwaukee County Transit Authority, showcasing his commitment to serving the community.

Despite facing numerous health challenges throughout his adult life, Greg was determined to be the best father he could be to his beloved daughter, Sarah. Known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve, Greg had a humorous outlook on life and was known for his kindness, even though he could be quite stubborn at times. His happiest moments were spent with family and friends, and he had a special fondness for his feline companions. He especially enjoyed recent visits from those he lovingly referred to as his "grand cats."

Greg was a devoted friend, particularly to his late best friend Danny, whom he supported after a life-altering college football accident. He also provided patient and compassionate care to his father-in-law, Bill, during his in-home hospice care. Greg's love for coffee, classic TV, basketball, and sweets, especially Reese's peanut butter cups, was well-known among those close to him. He played basketball during his high school years and attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Even after giving up driving, Greg returned to his passion for bicycling, which he enjoyed until September of this year, demonstrating his love for staying active despite his health issues.

Greg is survived by a large and loving family. His daughter, Sarah Huber, whom he shared with his first wife, Pegg Luther, was a central figure in his life. He maintained a warm friendship with his former wife, Nancy Huber, who, along with Sarah, provided unwavering support and care during his final years. Greg is also survived by his nine siblings and their spouses: Jack, Jim (Nancy), Tom (Kathy), Jerry (Peggy), Bob (Janette), Mike (Tammy), Joe (Melanie), Mary, and Carol. His extended family includes over 20 nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemarie and David Huber, his father-in-law, Bill Gesell, and his sister-in-law, Barbara Huber (Jack).

A service to honor Greg's life will be held on Friday, December 20th, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, located at 3722 S 58th St, Milwaukee, WI. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a mass at 1 p.m. Family and friends are invited to join in celebrating the life of a man who touched so many with his kindness, humor, and unwavering love.

Remember how Danny would push his lawnmower from his chair! Greg and I would load him up with wood before we watched Packer games!

Greg was such a fascinating person, and he was a good friend. A life well lived, and I recalled seeing him on a basketball game day wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a tie on it rather than a real tie. He was funny but also full of passion and he will be missed by his friends and family. I am lost for words, and I am praying for his family and friends, but I am grateful to have known him!!

A very kind and gentle soul, as long as I´ve known him. I´m quite sure my first encounter with Greg was playing Little League baseball on his team. I remember his humor as well (I think it runs in the family, Jerry!). Greg will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to all of Gregory's family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are certainly with you all. As a friend of the family I did not know Gregory personally, but this Obituary really did a great job of showing the great gut that he was.

I didn´t know Greg for a long time but I will always remember his voice and laughter when talking to Sarah in the car or when we dropped off his Reece's Peanut Butter Cup! He will be missed greatly!
