Gregory KOURI Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette from Aug. 15 to Aug. 17, 2012.
KOURI, Gregory (Greg) Anthony
1961 – 2012
Gregory (Greg) Anthony Kouri, 51, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 11, 2012 in New York City while on holiday with his family. Originally from Montreal, Canada, he was loved by many from Montreal to Toronto, California to Miami, New York and abroad.
Greg was a true visionary, involved in the internet sector back in 1995, after graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Business. He had started his career in Toronto focusing on real estate before moving to California to co-found Zip2 Corporation, one of the first, internet mapping companies. After successfully selling Zip2, Greg was an angel investor for numerous tech companies based in Silicon Valley, California. He was also a real estate investor in South Florida and Canada.
In 1999, Greg moved to Miami Beach. Greg's uncanny business acumen led him to several successful early stage investments in several Silicon Valley companies. People remember Greg as a kind, warm gentleman, with an elegant demeanor and an unforgettable smile. He was truly a guiding light for so many, and will be greatly missed by all who's lives he touched.
Greg is survived by his wife, Jean Marie Echemendia-Kouri, his two daughters Ava Camille Frankel, 15, and Vanessa Kouri, 7, and his brother, Andrew Kouri of Montreal. He is also survived by his father, Donald Kouri, and his stepmother Diane Kouri of Montreal. He is predeceased by his mother, Marlene Yared Kouri. He was a loving uncle to Megan, Alexandra, Caroline.
Visitation on Sunday, August 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Urgel Bourgie, 1255 Beaumont, Mount Royal, and on Monday 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Church at 575 Jean Talon East, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at St. George Antiochian Church and burial at Mount Royal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations to The Cedars Cancer Institute, St. Nicholas Church or to St. George Antiochian Church would be appreciated.

To Vanessa-you and our daughter Landon started at Cushman together when you were both 3 and had many play dates. After you changed schools, we lost touch a bit, but you and your dad used to have pizza together at our restaurant Pizza Volante. I will never forget one day when my husband Jonathan saw you guys there and talked with you for a while. He came home and told me how incredible your dad was with you-quizzing you on math facts but making it a fun and funny game, never losing patience yet pushing you to do your absolute best, and most of all smiling, laughing, loving and fully enjoying YOU! A man with a brilliant mind and a giant heart who really was a dad first and foremost.

Dear Donald and Diane,
God has truly tested both of you! For parents to endure the pain of losing their children is beyond comprehension. Greg and his lovely wife came to visit us and it was our joy to have had that brief time with him. We are beyond being sad at your loss and can only hope that the strength HE has given you can once again carry you through this difficult time. Know that we are thinking of you and sending our love. MEMORY ETERNAL, GREG!
