I was google browsing, looking up old friends, and found that Greg had passed. I was a pediatric resident with him at Walter Reed. RIP.

Somehow found myself today on Mark McKenna's FB page and was enjoying scrolling through some pics of his beautiful family when I saw Greg's obituary. My Central Catholic reminiscing went from high to low in a split second. Punch in the gut. Greg was one of the smartest in our group, but he didn't flaunt it. He was humble and kind, the best among us. He was a regular guy in the best sort of way. He was the kind of guy who would tutor someone he didn't know, or sit and have lunch with someone who didn't mingle well. Respected and liked by all. When he said he was going to be a physician, there was no doubt he would be a great one. From the kind words of his patients and their parents here, it is apparent that he did what he set out to do. He became spectacularly successful in a quiet Greg Sheffo kind of way. I know that his family misses him as much today as ever, so my prayers for your peace are not too late. So sad for your loss, but what a great example for his children, his friends and family. Greg lived the life he imagined, the life we talked about when sharing dreams at Central's lunch table. What a life it was Greg Sheffo!

I just saw the notice of Greg's passing in the Pitt Med magazine. We were residents in pediatrics at Walter Reed together. My, what crazy days and nights on call we had. I remember how he was so desperately in love with Karen! He was always fun, positive and energetic. My heart is so saddened to read of his passing. Some of my fondest memories are of us in the "trenches" together at Walter Reed. My thoughts and prayers are with Karen and family.

I am greatly saddened to hear of Greg's passing. I was his roommate during second year of medical school. Being roommates with Greg made our second year, the best year of medical school. I had not been in contact for a number of years as I moved west to Wyoming after medical school, but had touched base with Greg a few years back. His was great friend to any one who knew him. Greg always made a profound impact on anyone who knew him. He was a great man. I am sorry to hear of his passing

I am so sorry to hear of Dr Sheffo's unexpected passing. I worked with him in the nursery many a night at Clearfield Hospital as he so selfishly fought to help "one of his kids." He was always the professional and a calm presence when things were at their worst. I'm sure he will be sadly missed by all his patients, their families, and his co-workers. Mt sympathy and prayers go out to his family. I hope this brings some small token of comfort to you.
Stand Not There
~Ruth Kephart~
Stand not by my grave and weep
Where my body's buried cold and deep
I am not, nor were ever, there
Beneath the ground now striped and bare
Stand not by my casket closed
Head bowed down, your stance reposed
Wherein the lowly vessel lies
I am not there, mine is the skies
Please, stand not under falling rain
In cemetery filled with pain
Where mourners gather out of love
I am not there, I've rose above
Oh, stand not there and do not cry
My dearest friends, I'll tell you why
I've gone to greater places far
Above soft clouds and glistening star
'Till one day we shall meet once more
Where angels sing on golden shore
So do not stand there, do not weep
Let my body go, my memory keep

Greg was one of the finest physicians I have ever had the pleasure of working with. His interpesonal skills, sharp intellect and genuine nature made Clearfield Hospital a much better place. He is irreplaceable and had my utmost professional and personal respect. My prayers are with his family and loved ones.

Dr. Sheffo has cared for my two teenage boys since he came to Clearfield. When my youngest was in intensive care many years ago, Dr. Sheffo was there by his side, even bringing an extra cup of coffee for my husband. Our family is shocked and saddened, and we will never forget this wonderful man.

I was Greg's basketball coach in the mid-70's @ St. Philomena's for 3 years. During that period, I never once had to discipline him. He was always steps ahead of his teammates in more ways than one. And, that obviously showed in his life many years after. What a success... and what a tragic loss. God be with you all.

Dear Karen, Catherine, Monica and Natalie, and Aunt Jean,
My love to you all. I have such a great memory of the last time I saw my cousin, Greg. It was late Dec. of 1985. He was visiting us in Texas, and I remember him giving me exercise advice. I found out I was pregnant with my second child while he was here, and I clearly remember how happy he was for us. It's so nice reading that so many people thought so highly of him. His family in Texas did too!!!! Much love, Donna

Dr. Sheffo was my kids' pediatrician from the time he began his practice in Clearfield and although because my kids were pretty healthy, we only saw him once a year or so it was great knowing he was there if we needed him. As a nurse, whenever I saw him at Clearfield Hospital, he always had a smile and stopped to say "hello." He will be greatly missed by this community.
