Gregory Swayne

Gregory, Gig, Swayne, 67 of Newington unexpectedly left this life on Saturday August 24, 2019 surrounded by his wife and children. Gig was born in MT Kisco, NY on July 6, 1952 to Theodore and Jane Beckmann Swayne. Well liked and a great athlete, Gig moved to Newington in 1966. New York's loss was CT's gain. He still remained a die hard Yankees fan. A 1970 graduate of Newington High, Gig also attended Greater Hartford Community College. He played football, baseball, and basketball, He also played in the Nutmeg Bowl, a state wide championship. He loved all outdoor activities and that's how he spent his time after his retirement. Gig is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Sue McDonnell, his son Patrick, daughters Kate and Kelly, his daughter in-law Tina. Grandchildren Daniel, Colin, Hannah, Timothy, Haley, Bridget, and Olivia. He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey and granddaughter, Molly. He also leaves a brother MarkSwayne of Simsbury and a sister Patricia Bengtson of Wethersfield, Along with many nieces and nephews. Gig was a wonderful husband and father. A memorial Mass will be held in honor of Greg at Holy Spirit Annunciation Parish at 183 Church St, Newington on Wednesday September 4 at 10:00 am.
