Gregory John White
On the afternoon of Sunday, August 4, 2013, at approximately 4:15 pm, Greg passed away at Baylor Regional Medical Center, Plano West, Plano, TX, as a result of pulmonary arrest. Greg was being visited and comforted by his wife, family and many friends.
Greg White was born in Evanston, Illinois at 9:00 am on February 29 (leap year), 1956. He was the third child, and third son, of Patricia Flanagan (White) Judd and Melvin Edwin White.
Family and Friends will remember Greg as someone who never met a stranger, had a heart as big as his 6 ft. 4 inch frame, would, and could, talk all day, and could light up a room with his smile. Greg loved people, and people loved Greg. He was a loving husband; father, brother, son, and friend.
Greg moved to Dallas, Texas at age one when his father was transferred to Dallas. Greg and his brothers were born to be Texans, and thrived in Dallas, and later Plano, TX. Greg graduated from Richardson High School and attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX.
Prior to kindergarten, Greg was the family champion at games of memorization, like Concentration. His uncanny skills at remembering numbers carried over to sports. He easily memorized all the Dallas Cowboys players' numbers as a young boy, also citing key statistics for each player and team in the NFL. He never lost his love for sports of all kinds, but particularly football. Fantasy Football was invented for Greg, we think, as he loved the challenge and action each week.
Greg followed his older brothers into scouting; and over the years Greg attended scouting camps, both as a scout and as a leader, at Lake Texoma and Possum Kingdom Lake, and was privileged to attend the World Scouting Jamboree in Japan. His scouting career culminated in scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Greg's son, Nick, has been following in his Dad's footsteps in scouting.
Greg loved snakes. He kept a cage of them during the summer in the family's garage, to the horror of his mother, and once brought a five foot boa constrictor home for the summer from St. Mark's School in Dallas, which he attended for some years. He could identify every variety of snake in Texas, and Texas has a lot of snakes!
Greg's love of people, and numbers, led to a career in mortgage banking in Dallas, working at Chase, and BB&T. He was also very active in his Church and was a Mason. He always volunteered to assist Nick's coaches during basketball and football seasons. His favorite event of the year was taking his daughter, Katherine, to the Father Daughter Valentine dance. He loved being the lineman for her Volleyball games. Greg loved to surprise Jill with animals; he brought home a surprise, JJ, the family dog, and MoMo the family guinea pig.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Edwin White, as well as his grandparents, John and Helen Flanagan, and Herbert and Esther White, and Aunt Barbara (Flanagan) Stein.
Greg is survived by his wife, Jill White, and two children, Nick and Katherine; his mother, Patricia Flanagan (White) Judd; his two brothers, David White, wife Tommi, and three daughters, Amie (White) Ellis, Mary Anne (White) McCandless, Melissa (White) Hudson; Jeff White, wife Diane, and their two sons, Cameron and Conner; Jill's parents, Joanne and Charles Connell, Jr.; cousins Glenn Holland and Aleta (Holland) Sherman; as well as many 2nd and 3rd cousins.
