I had Mr. Goss as a World History teacher in Middle School. You could easily get him off course by getting him to talk about the war. I also remember he said he did not drive and took the school bus to school. Great endearing teacher. We will all miss him.

Mr. Goss was my principal for most of the 1971-1972 school year at Maple Road Junior High School in West Milford, NJ. During the year he and Mr. Loscialpo, who'd been my principal for most of my time at Paradise Knoll School, switched positions. Mr. Goss was a very nice man.

Most go into education to affect the lives of the people of tomorrow, few achieve this goal. Mr. Goss, from the looks of things you achieved it in a way that could never be matched. Thank you for years of service, you are missed.

I stumbled upon this through Facebook today and was saddened to hear of his passing. I had the pleasure of having his son Mr. Jerry Goss as my 5th Grade teacher at Jenkins Elementary in Spring, TX, as well as have his father Gunther Goss as a substitute teacher throughout my high school years at Spring High. He was a wonderful person who greatly touched the lives of many young people. He was adored by so many and I know his legacy will live on in the hearts of many. May he rest in peace. And thank you to his family for sharing him with us.

aaaah my dad came to me in a dream about 2 weeks ago, we were at an old school that he was principal of, and I was waiting outside the gym, he came through the doors in a hurry, I said "dad, where are you going?" he stopped and said " I have and emeregency in 211", so quickly I said "can i just get a hug", he came to me, hugged me hard, and left... I awoke immediately, still feeling his hug, thanks dad, you are so missed...

Hi Dad,
When Ike hit Houston last month, I know you were with Mom, Greg & Mike the whole time and you were watching out for them. I wish I could have been there. The time is getting nearer for my surgery. I think I have covered all the bases with potential problems with anesthesia. Please be there with me on Tuesday, if God can spare you for a couple of minutes. I was able to make copies of early pictures of you and Mom, something you, Erika and I know will bring Mom great joy and peace. Isn't Mom amazing? I know you are proud of her also! I love you so much and miss you too! Love, Denise

I'm 38 now, but I was only 12 years old when I first met Mr Goss. He was the oldest teacher I had, and he made history interesting. We coud always get him off topic by asking him about his experiences in WW2. He taught me a lot not only about history, but more importantly about relationships. I will never forget him. I guess there is one more angel in heaven now.

Unfortunately, I only got to meet him once about a year before he passed away, but through the stories told by my wife, Mary Yarbray, and her cousins, I felt as if I had known Mr. Goss since I married into her family. His name would come up and the stories would go round and round. Mary's cousin, James Kaufmann, remembered that if they wanted to get off task they would just ask Mr. Goss something about WWII and that was it. He would go off on a WWII story after that.
Being a student of WWII, I really missed out on a great man and teacher. You guys were very lucky to have him in your lives. And to his family, my sympathies are with you. As this guest book proves, he is not gone as long as everyone remembers him.

Mr. Goss was my middle school history teacher at Dueitt about 22 years ago. Now I am a teacher at Spring High School and I had the opportunity to work with Mr. Goss on our campus. He was loved by all students and he never lost his edge or ability to teach with a grin and a joke. In middle school I remember the "W" club which was his discipline system. If he marked his grade book with 3 W's as in WWIII you were really in trouble. At Easter he would change it to the bunny club. We loved him and he will sorely be missed. I am petitioning the district to name one of its many new schools after my idol: Gunther Goss.

I had Mr Goss as a substitute teacher while I attended both Duiett middle school and Spring high school. He was fun and funny and hearing that he was going to be teaching a certain class made my day go a little bit easier.
He told the best stories, he always had a mischievous gleam in his eyes when he told them...
You are missed Mr. Goss.

The world has lost an AWESOME man. What teacher do you know that would tell you jokes & actual detailed info about Germany, the wars and give you Candy bars for guessing a # after class. I was in Mr. Goss's class in 5th grade when they had the babies. That's when we came up with calling him Grandpa Goss so we didn't get the two confused he was our teacher while Mr.Goss was on maternity leave with his wife. It was so cool going through Dueitt & finishing in Spring and still having him sub through out my school career. I had 2 uncles that had him as a teacher and then 2 lil brothers also he was a big part to my family. My heart goes out to all of the Goss family and all the students who lives he touched. We can live in the comfort knowing he is smiling down at us all. We all know that the Heavens are rolling with laughter with him up there.

I had a dream about my dad. I was in a school called Paradise Knoll in N.J.,and I was looking for him and searching some rooms. I opened the door to a room and he was sitting there at a desk. As I walked closer I couldn't believe how good he looked, and then gosh darn it I woke up!! I think I was so surprised to see him that I woke myself up. The whole next day I had this neat feeling, ya know like he's really not that far away, and at the same time It made me realize just how much I miss seeing him- Peace to all-

What can one say about the most heartbreaking event that ever directly influenced so many people? I know that Mr. Goss was one of the very few reasons I convinced myself to go to school every day; Seeing him in the hallways was what made my week. Now the memories of possibly the most kindhearted man I ever knew are what get me through life when I think there was no one in the world who could retain optimism after all the pain in the world chronically occured. In the name of perseverence and hope, I bid my farewell to the most influential and goofy man I've ever met. Thanks for everything, Mr. Goss.

Spring has lost the best sub they ever had. Mr. Goss subed for our class the week before he died, we never knew he'd never be at our graduation. Mr. Goss,
I know this is REALLY late, but I'm here none the less. You used to nag at me for always procrastinating, well I'm doing it again, I'm sorry. Last year at graduation it was so hard for me to realize that you won't be there to watch us walk across that stage this year. None of the future students will ever understand how much you meant in the lives of the students at Spring High. You were such a great person and I will miss you terribly for the rest of my life. You were such a great inspiration to me and others and I'm so sorry that others will never know you or your guidance. Your memory will always live on. We love you Mr. Goss.

He was a very inspirational man. As many have said, noone ever said anything slightly mean about Mr. Goss, because he never did anything to deserve to be treated wrongly. all the students respected him in such a way that will rarely be seen anywhere else. I personally wasn't at the school long, but I have many memories of Mr. Goss's war stories, candy, and his number game, I came very close to winning twice, but no luck. he will be forever in my heart as one of the sweetest men I have ever known. Everyone at Spring High absolutely loved Mr. Goss. He was always the funnest substitute and we would always say "I hope we have Mr. Goss today!" And that's not normal for teenagers to want to have a teacher at all, but we all loved Mr. Goss, with his funny jokes and war stories that everyone would talk about through the hallways, and for that to come out of teenagers mouths and not violence or nonsense really does make Mr. Goss an angel. We will always remember and charish every memory he has given us. We truly do appreciate all that he's done for the teens at Spring, including me. It must comfort you to also know that he went to heaven, and that we'll see him again in the end! I'm sorry that he had to leave, but his memory will never leave, especially his war stories!

To the family of Mr. Goss: Thank you for sharing him with us students every day. He was far and away the best substitute teacher we ever had. He was able to command respect from the most unruly students through his humor and grace. Sadly, news of Mr. Goss' passing has just now come to my attention as I was searching the SHS website. As many have said before me, Mr. Goss was truly a great man and fine educator. While at Spring High, I had the great fortune of having Mr. Goss as a sub for many classes. Mr. Goss made such a favorable impact on all of us that we couldn't wait to get to class when we knew that he would be our sub. His stories were timeless and inspirational, all enhanced by his unique style. I remember that whenever I would see him in the hallway and say, "Hi, Mr. Goss," he would always give me a peppermint. I will truly miss this great man whom we called "Mr. Goss" and cherish him always in my memories.

Mr Goss.. I did not get to know you personally by I can still remember the day my son came home and said "Mom, tomorrow is our substitutes last day our teacher is coming back" and I responded "I thought you usually do not like your substitutes and he said.. "oh no Mr Goss is the coolest teacher I have ever had he tells me stories of what he as done and studied and he almost had me convinced to change my career choice" and at that moment I knew he was a great man because my son is not easily enfluenced as he has wanted to be a software engineer since he was five.. My children were very sad to hear of the loss but as we all know you will always be alive in our memories no matter how great or small...
you will be missed but I am sure you are in a better place..

Students remember very few teachers over the years. It's apparent no one can forget Mr. Goss. Twenty years later, I am sharing memories of my middle school and high school days with my teenage daughter and her friends, and Mr. Goss's classes are one of the first fun stories that come to mind. I remeber vividly thinking that if we got him to tell us a war story, we would get out of classwork. I didn't realize until later that I was still learning. Not just about history, but about life. It seems he left an impression on everyone he met and a part of him will live on through all of us.

Mr. Goss was so much more than a substitute teacher. I will never forget the impact he had on myself as well as so many other students. Its funny how I have absolutely no memory of a single student ever disrespecting him. I remember hearing two classmates of mine debating whether or not to skip class, but when they saw Mr. Goss, they automatically decided to stay. He was that good. I will never forget the great war stories, the jokes, and "the game". Its amazing how one man can make such an impact on so many people. We will miss you Mr. Goss, See ya in heaven!

Mr Goss was truly the BEST! I am out of the area now (Ohio) and I have just heard this awful news. I consider myself a better person for having known him. I had the privilege of being his student at Dueitt as well as seeing him many times (too many times) in ISS at Spring. I am not sure I would have made it through those LONG BORING days of in school suspension without him. He was definitely as asset to the SISD and I am sure will be deeply missed. My thoughts & prayers are with his family

I just want to say thank you Mr. Goss for all of the many years of the incredible impact you have had on every person you have crossed paths with. Your plus and minus board, your numerous, but always educational and interesting war stories and your contagious sense of humor are some of your many admiring attributes. There will never be another teacher quite like you. THANK YOU!!!

Its' hard to believe that a man who has touched the lives of so many young minds will no longer be able to share his gift of wisdom. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Goss as a sub more than a few times. Every time I walked into class and saw him standing there I knew that I could not wait until it was "Super Bonus" time. He had a way of capturing you attention with his stories of his time served in the military. I now am a member of the Military and i believe that a small part of it was due to his stories. No one person who ever had Mr. Goss as a sub will ever forget him and all the things he brought to Spring High School.
You will be Missed Mr. Goss.

As you go through life, you learn about the historic persons who improved our world. You never seem to notice the everyday heroes
that occupy our daily lives. My father-in-law, Gunther F. Goss, was such a hero. He was a dedicated father, teacher, church member, community volunteer, and an all around nice guy. Gus cared deeply about his family, his community (in particular, the schools), and his country. The world is definitely a better place for his caring. Although we really miss him, we take comfort in the fun he is having talking to other historic people in heaven.

Mr. Goss was the right man at the right time either being a teacher, a parent, a community member or my father in law. Gus was the only person I had met that could out talk myself and did so with me asking for more.
I never had him as my teacher in school but he did teach me many things about life over these last 24 years that I have been married into the Goss family.
He accepted me for who I was, never tried to change me (although my flaws were numerous) and trusted me with his daughter.
Gunther Goss was/is a great man and although I will miss him, he remains with me every day.

Dearest Dad,
There was no Dad in the whole that was more fun to be around with than you. My sibs and I always wanted to go with you to do errands around town; you made the most mundane trip a joy. We would run into your students and townspeople after school hours; how they would look up to you and recall the delight in their voices when they said, “Hello Mr. Goss!” I wasn’t disappointed when my school chum told me there wasn’t any Santa Claus, you were Santa Claus; you are and always will be my best Santa. Visiting you, Mom and the family in Houston at Christmas is the best time of year; I remember those Texas-size inflatable Santas on your front lawn greeting us after getting off the plane from NJ. I will continue to keep Christmas in my heart. Thanks again for walking me down the aisle! I love you so much dad.
(I also want to thank everyone who gave us much love and help during this sad time.)

Mr. Goss' stories entertained and rewarded many students at Spring High School.Every time I walked into class and saw him...it made the day so much better, and always being on his "positive" side and being the champ at the number game made it much much better. He lived an extordinary life and I wish the rest of the kids to enter into SHS could experience the joy and the awsome war stories he brought to our school. Everyone will definitly miss him!RIP
