Gunther Wagner Obituary

Published by Inside Bay Area on Sep. 5, 2010.
Günther Wagner Aug. 6, 1941 - Aug. 18, 2010 Resident of San Leandro Günther Wagner, 69, of San Leandro, passed away August 18, 2010. Günther was born to Ernst and Helene Wagner on August 6th 1941 in Kaiserslautern, Germany. At age 17 he left war torn Germany on his own and made his new home in California. Soon after his arrival he started work at a local investment casting foundry. He built his American dream with hard work and continuous education. He gave his all to everything he did and by doing so worked his way up to become Vice President and Plant Manager of a company that employed 150+ employees, to whom he was dedicated. A direct quote from Günther, "I am one of the few people who actually likes his work and enjoys his job." He stayed with Precision Founders, Inc .for most of his professional life. More recently, before retiring, he worked for IPP and helped that company built out their operations in China. Although he enjoyed his work, he missed his calling as an artist, as evidenced by the many wonderful pieces of artwork he created during his lifetime. To his family he was a great provider and a loving father. He was a single father of 4, previously married to Heidi Buchholz and later to Kimberlee Brogan. He is survived by his children David Wagner, Derek Wagner, Shane Wagner, and Sonya Capelli; his six adoring grandchildren; his brother Horst Wagner, New York, sister Christel Zeilinger of Danville, and Gerda Christmann of Germany; and all his loving nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all. Please consider a donation in his honor for a bench at lake Chabot where he enjoyed so many days of fishing - earmark your check "Gunther Wagner Memorial Bench". Send donations to: Regional Parks Foundation, P.O. Box 21074, Crestmont Station-Oakland, CA 94620.
