I remember Gus from movies. But I remember working with Gus to make my first TV and/or Radio ad. Success beyond dreams. My Highlights. 1. Going as his guest to Boxing Hall of Fame night, Gus being MC on opening my new office and New Home Lifesyle Centre. There was a lot more in all of those years, but it ended with Gus coming to my 60th birthday party. He was in pain and I was full of joy that he made the effort. Gus, king of kings, all the best Leighton.

Gus, (Augustino Eugenio), won the hearts of many. He brought smiles to our faces & tears to our eyes, with his acting. He had the biggest heart that no human being has. He's raspy voice, his generosity, his kind nature, his energetic personality, his talents & he was an awesome man altogether. We will never forget you Gus. You will be missed by us all...
RIP...
LEGEND...

I will cherish my memories of my holidays to Australia in the early 80's. I loved watching; "Five Mile Creek" in the states and when Rita and Gus took me to the Western and Homestead Disney sets, I was in Heaven. I will never forget those times. I wished I got to know Gus better. He would've been an interesting man to have known. He was most of all a very talented actor. Gifted to do numerous different roles and his voice as his trademark.
My deepest condolences to my family: Rita, Jen, Jessica and their extended family; as well as Gus' extended family in Australia, as well as in the States. My love to all of you. Gus, you will be missed!!

"I met and had many conversations with Gus about 15 years ago when I worked for the Professional Boxing Control Board as a clerk. He was always bright and cheerful and nearly always had a gag to tell. He was also very supportive of me, which I will never forget. Thanks old Mate!!! Condolences to the Mercurio Family." No more will I pick up the phone and hear that distinctive voice say "goodaye buddy, got a gag for ya".
Gus has been a friend to myself and my wife for close on 50 years.
We met through our involvement in Pistol Shooting in the days when Gus was a Chiropractor in Swan Hill and have remained close through the years, in fact Rita and my wife share a birthday so many joint celebrations were held, see photo.
Gus was a firm believer in "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and it was this philosophy that endeared him to people in all professions or sports and allowed him to accumulate the diverse range of friends that will miss him greatly, I know that we will.
Goodbye buddy, we had some good times, I would like to think that we will again some day ?.

I met Gus about 6 years ago. He was so full of life and the most positive person I have ever met. We soon became friends after our first meeting. Gus was a very special man, who was far more than a famous public figure to me and my family. He was a man who loved to inspire others. He certainly inspired me. His love and zest for life has left a lasting impression on me and my family that we will cherish forever. He was truly unique and one of a kind. God Bless You Gus, Rest in Peace my friend, going to really miss you Buddy. Our thoughts and Prayers to the Mercurio Family.

When I first came up with the idea of getting Gus to do a TV ad, back in 1980, I had no idea that my association would go on so long, nor become so personal. Not only so many tv and radio ads, so many years, but special days, such as the Boxing Hall of Fame, the opening of my lifestyle centre, and my birthday party, year before last, when Gus, like always, was always the star! I cherish my book, "Hang in there" and the little note penned by my friend, Gus.

It has been many years since i first met Gus through Rita his delightful partner, when Rita was a theatrical talent agent in Melbourne and I was then a budding actor who had occassional success. Gus was a wonderful warm and spirited man who had a smile that would embrace you with open arms. I watched an engaging true actor over many years who played many different parts - all so Gus!!! His "World of Sport" moments with Lou Richards and Co. on Channel 7 are now part of Melbourne televisions rich history. It was a privilege to have met Gus those many years ago and of course Rita, whom I have not unfortunately seen for all those many years since. To Rita and family my sincere condolences and to Gus ... a life well lived and a great contribution to so many fields thoughout your life. Melbourne, The Arts and Sport are the poorer.

From when we first met at the old channel 10 studios in Nunnawading and all the other studios over the next 20 plus years, I will always remember your warmth and your genuine kindness and how you made me feel at ease doing all those TV ads. In 30 second voice overs there is no one else that could give such little time the strength and character that you did, Gus. A lot of people in Melbourne will remember "Hey Guys"...
I will miss you Gus. your friend Pat Clark

When we travelled Australia for several years making "Gone Fishing" and "Gus Mercurios' Australia' it was mostly the same production crew.

We were all friends and became like a family. Gus was the glue that held this strange family together.

He always tried to leave us with a smile. This time old mate I don't feel like smiling.
