Dear O'Gorman family, I bumped into Gus only a few weeks ago, and as usual he made me laugh and smile. I was honored to have worked with him, he was one of a kind. Generous, deep, fun and unique, a great person and physician. I miss him dearly and will never forget him. My sincerest sympathies with your loss.

Dear Karin, Michael, and Aisling,
It is was with great sadness that I heard about the passing of Gus - a truly decent man who was able to embody both the "seriousness" and unique humour of Ireland. A gifted story teller (of which we were witness both at our dining room table back in the 70's, and at our own Dad's funeral in the mid-90's) and a "cracking" middle distance runner who I used to see (and try to chase) running along the hills of West Montreal. I see him running through the fields of Athenry - as a gift for a life well lived and mindfully enjoyed.
Peace, Chris

Dear Karin
Pat and I were saddened to hear of Gus' sudden passing. He was a wonderful core member of the medical staff at the Montreal Children's Hospital. He brightened many a day for many. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have had him as a colleague and friend.
Sorry we could not attend his farewell celebration.

Karen,
I was so sorry to hear that Gus had passed away. I have lost a great cross country ski partner and will remember good times at the Chateau Montebello around the fireplace. A good golfing buddy has also gone. He enjoyed his first trip to the Fall Classic just 3 weeks ago(photo attached). My sincerest sympathy and condolences.

Dear Karen and Family,
Please accept our sincere sympathies concerning Gus's passing. We have fond memories of him over the years, particularly during our Irish dancing days at Bernadette Short's School. His warm, always welcoming smile and the way he had of treating you like you were the only person in the world who mattered when he spoke to you, are two such memories that will always stand out for us. Blessings and peace. -- Brendan and Bernadette Walsh.

Karin, Michael and Aishling - we are terrible saddened to hear the news. From the days of sharing a "pad" with John in Pittsburgh to Gus' Chicago visits over the years, including his first (and only) Notre Dame football game, we had many humorous and happy times. Your wedding was the most wonderful we ever attended. We will miss his incredible sense of humor, especially the Christmas missive which was highly anticipated each holiday season. May the many happy memories you made sustain you all through this very sad time.

Remembering Gus with an innate bounce in his step and stance. Did not seem to stand still. Was it the Irish in him? So glad to have been at the Laurentian Lodge for St. Patrick's Day dinner, with Gus as MC. Was it 2015? The dining room was in his thrall, laughing, applauding, thumping the tables. He ran a great show. And I am not even Irish.
A more astonishing memory: Gus on his bike whizzing down the curving streets from Westmount mountain on his way to work. Big smile under his helmet. And it was uphill all the way home.
A doctor fully committed to care in Montreal, generous and compassionate. He leaves a great emptiness: family and friends here and in Ireland; colleagues and patients.
Sorrow and respect for you, Karin.

He was one of the first people to setup a Bloomsday event here in the city many years ago - before we started the Bloomsday Montreal Festival. And he has been one of our most ardent supporters and participants in the events. Just last week he was participating in our Finnegans Wake session at the Westmount Library. He was a Board member and an active participate in all our Festivals. Of course, he was also one of the most important and active members of the Montreal Irish community as well.

I will forever remember the fondness and self deprecating humour he exhibited, along with his love of language. A fine man whose Christmas letters on in laws, rants and raves about dentures and failing memory, crepuscular decay and general curmudgeony observations made for a special treat. Will cherish his memory, his fine spirit and genuine love for what he described as his first wife Karen!
As God is love, Gus is now probably rehearsing for some thespian show of spirits in the heavens--may his soul rest in peace. Farewell, but know that you are loved and missed. Condolences to his family
