My condolences to the family. Gus is one of my all time favorite players. I patterned my game after him. As I youth I was given the name Gus (wizard). My Instagram name says it all. S.gusto50

I spent so much time with the Sonics in my youth. Gus was my favorite. I played baseball and my uniform was number "1" as was Gus. And when they won in 1979 I was a part of the biggest parade in downtown Seattle. You have given me great memories, Thank you ! Rest in Peace

Gus was a pheromonal basketball player who helped put Mount Vernon, my hometown, on the map when it came to basketball. I remember seeing him play in the 4th Street Playground, part of Levister Towers, back in the day. One of my closet friends, F. Glen "Bat" Jones, was one of the last people to see Gus when he was in a hospital in Durham, NC back in 2020 right before the pandemic. May his light continue to shine among the angels in heaven RIP.

He gave me and my friends one of our greatest childhood memories with that Championship. So silky smooth. One of the most underrated point guards. Nay! Players of all time. Gone too soon for sure.

I remember watching him play in the playground of Nathan Hale school in Mt Vernon NY when he was still in Jr. high school. The family lived on 5th ave across from the playground I lived on 7th ave and go see him and his brother Ray play. Sad to hear of the passing at such a young age. RIP

Wow, sad to learn another member of the 1979 Sonics championship team has left us. I hope Gus, Dennis, John, Lonnie, and Paul have a happy reunion in Heaven. Sending thoughts and prayers to his friends and family.

My first memory of Gus was when I was a freshman at USC and I met him at The Grill. My roommate Nancy and I got to be good friends with Gus and John Lambert and we have so many great memories of watching them play and being friends. Gus, not only were you a fantastic basketball player, you have always been a wonderful person. RIP always, Carla Demas
