Guy Bickley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2025.
We are gathered in remembrance and celebration of the life of Guy Lawrence Bickley, who passed away peacefully in Newport, Michigan, on March 20, 2025. Born on February 3, 1957, to the late Donald Bickley and Lois Kirk in Buffalo, New York, Guy lived a life filled with wonder, warmth, and wide smiles. His affable spirit and friendly demeanor left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.

A devoted family man, Guy took immense pride in his heritage and roots. He was the cherished brother of Diane Ferguson (decd. 2006), Robin (Ken) Michelin, Kelly Kirk, and Keith Kirk (Decd. 2020). Guy's legacy is carried on through his loving children, Tara (Kent) Kupser and Ryan (Michelle) Bickley. Reveling in the role of Papa, he adored his grandchildren, Abigail, Annaliese, Marybeth, Rosa Maria, and Isaac, and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his sixth grandchild. Guy was a fun-loving uncle to many nieces and a nephew.

Guy contributed his labor and camaraderie to numerous projects and initiatives. His work ethic was unparalleled, and the strength of his character was reflected in his professional commitment.

At the heart of Guy's outside-of-work life was his love for the wilderness: he was a man in tune with the earth's rhythm. Known as "Big Buck" by many who shared his passions, Guy was an avid outdoorsman. Whether hunting, fishing, or trapping, he was most at ease amidst the serenity of nature. His enthusiasm for outdoor life was contagious, and he was ever-ready to recount tales of his adventures or impart his well-honed skills to eager learners.

Guy's creative spirit was expressed through his hands, which deftly created unique wood crafts, such as handcrafted canes, walking sticks, wishing wells, and an array of other woodworks. Each piece was a testament to his love for the craft and a representation of the individuality he saw in the world around him.

It was during one of his routine fishing trips on the River Raisin that Guy made a poignant contribution to his community. In June of 2009, he discovered the body of missing 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan, bringing a tragic disappearance to a close and offering a measure of solace to a grieving family. This act of happenstance demonstrated Guy's unwavering sense of civic duty and underscored the role he played as an inadvertent guardian within the community fabric.

Those who knew Guy will remember a man who embodied love and kindness. His unwavering spirit and friendly approach made him a beloved figure in his community and amongst his cherished circle. Guy's absence will resonate deeply, but his spirited legacy will continue to inspire, reflecting the love he so freely gave.

As we bid farewell to a soul whose time with us was rich and illustrative of what it means to lead a life of passion and purpose, let us not forget the echo of his laughter, the warmth of his embrace, and the generosity of his spirit. As Big Buck roams the heavenly forests, we trust that the essence of Guy-loving, spirited, and friendly-will remain with us, guiding us through our own journeys.

Guy Lawrence Bickley's life has been a beautiful journey, one that did not end with his passing but will continue through the lives of those he touched. He has set forth on a new adventure, leaving behind a trail of joy, devotion, and heartfelt memories for all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A celebration of life is planned for June 28th, 2025, details are to follow.

Guy was absolutely an amazing person. I met guy involving the Nevaeh case. I run the group Justice for Nevaeh. When I came knocking on his door one day out of the clear blue sky wanting to talk about his experience he opened the door and let me in ! I was a perfect stranger to him but when I walked out I felt connected to him. I am so sorry for your loss. Throughout the years randomly I would message him especially on his and Nevaeh´s Birthday. To this day I believe destiny brought him to that river that day to be Nevaeh´s guardian angel! I mean they shared the same Birthday. I will forever remember Guy and his kindness. Rest in Peace Guy! Hug Nevaeh for me.
