Guy GUNTER Obituary

GUNTER, Jr., Guy T. Guy Theron Gunter, Jr., 98, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his home in Sandy Springs, GA. He was born in Lawrenceville on June 6, 1918 to Guy T. Gunter, Sr. and Mamie R. Gunter. Guy grew up in Atlanta and graduated from Grady Boy's High School. He worked as a salesman for GE until the onset of WWII. Guy was inducted into the U. S. Army and served as a glider pilot throughout the duration of the war. Upon his return he married Evelyn Theresa Davis on August 11, 1945. They were happily married for 49 years until Evelyn's death on July 25, 1994. They had three children who gave them 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Guy was a legendary figure in post-war Atlanta. He began Guy T. Gunter, Jr. and Associates in 1952 where he sold appliances and was a manufacturer's agent. Guy also never quit flying, incorporating being a private pilot into covering the Southeast as a salesman. He was well-known and well-liked throughout his life with many caring friends and acquaintances. We will not see his like again. Memorial services celebrating his life will be conducted on Saturday, November 5th at two o'clock in the afternoon at H. M. Patterson & Son Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Friends are cordially invited to visit with the family from one o'clock until the hour of service. Flowers may be sent to the above address. There will be a reception at the GGH Showroom at 1610 Southland Circle, Atlanta, GA from 3:30 until 5:30 following the memorial service, 404-874-7529.

I met Mr. Guy at Bobby and June's kountry kitchen several years ago, he was always so sweet to everyone and such a pleasure to talk to ! He loved his family and I always enjoy hearing him talk with such pride about his family gatherings! He will be greatly missed! And never forgotten!

I met Mr. Gunter (Guy as he liked to be called) about 12 years ago at the Waffle House on Roswell Rd/Glenridge dr. A very kind man that knew my father some 35 years ago. I will always have fond memories of you and your keen wit that you had. God Bless and see you again someday !!

I met Guy in Sandy Springs when I was in High school many years ago..I woke him up by accident in his home. I don't know how I didn't see him lying on the sofa and was expecting a gruff reception most freshly awakened fathers would have for some long-haired kid they'd never met who woke them up in their own house.. What I got instead was a genuine smile, a firm handshake, and a sunny disposition from an amazingly friendly man. It surprised me so much I've never forgotten it. I'm so sorry for you loss. .

I worked at the Wolf Camera next to Mr. Gunter's business, and was privileged to have known him. I'm sure he's up in heaven right now driving Jesus around in a red Jaguar convertible.

I am so honored and grateful to have been counted among the many, many friends of Guy. He was a multi-faceted gentleman and individualist but, by my reckoning, among his proudest accomplishments were those of loving father and grandfather. Guy was also a real old-fashioned American hero. Most of us simply can't imagine the courage it took to purposefully crash land his glider behind enemy lines during the Invasion of Normandy. Thank God for Guy and that most amazing and greatest generation of patriots.
May choirs of Angels sing him to his rest.
