Guy McFARLIN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 9, 2022.
McFARLIN, Guy Douglas a man of many passions and opinions, died Dec. 24, 2021 at home in Tampa, FL. Pam, his wife of 46 years, held his hand. Born Jan. 31, 1950 in East Moline, IL to John and Laura McFarlin, Guy was known for his larger-than-life personality. At UT HS '68 he loved music, and formed the Tempters V (drummer) that rocked the Cow Palace. "Uncle Nature" discovered his love of nature at Indian Dancing and camp counseling. He studied marine biology at the USVI, cultivated bonsai for decades, and nurtured orchids at our "Bamboo Retreat." He chaired Lowry Park's Zoofari in 1994. He served three years in Vietnam with the USMC, and was forever "Semper Fi." Guy was extremely well-read and would speak with anyone on any subject (adamantly). He would awaken with a new poem in mind that he had to write down at once. Guy and Pam moved to Florida in 1980 and raised their two daughters, Kate and Margaret. Guy loved being their Dad, teaching and challenging them to do their best, sharing symphonies, cooking, shopping for prom, and traveling across the US. Guy is survived by his family, Pamela; Kate and Nate Barney, Rose, Will, Eliza, of Nantucket; Margaret and Casey McGaughey, Kai, Miles, of Indianapolis; Debbie Quigg, Tom and Melinda Doyle, Mike and Keri Doyle, Jim and Donna Doyle. Guy was an amazing human. My dad and Guy used to hang out ALL THE TIME after Daddy would pick my sister and I up from Gorrie. I still remember making coffees and other such things at the cafe he ran on the island for a little while...unless I dreamed that.

Rest In Peace, dear cousin.

Our birthdays were only 5 days apart. We grew up as best friends.

I will forever cherish the many shared memories of our childhood (so many stories to tell!)

Pam, my deepest heartfelt condolences I send to you and your family. Peace and Love.

We´ve lost such a beautiful human. Guy was always the most sensitive, compassionate, kind man. Also, so much fun, and quirky and colorful. My love and condolences to Pam and the family.
