Gwen Shiao Kuang Huang

Gwen Shiao Kuang Huang, 58, went to be with the Lord on August 19, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mrs. Huang was born on April 7, 1952 in Taipei, Taiwan as the youngest of four children to Mr. Shi Yang and Mrs. Muli Lee. She graduated from Ming Chuan University in Taiwan with training in secretarial work. She then met and married Mr. Albert Huang in 1980. Gwen subsequently immigrated to California with him, where they raised their three children.

Mrs. Huang was a caring mother and dutiful wife. She sacrificed personal luxuries and taught and practiced a life of frugality in order to provide for her family's needs. She loved her children and made sure that they always had something delicious to eat every day. Mrs. Huang also took the time to get to know each of her children, so that she could best cater to their individual needs. They, along with her toddler grandson, were the delights of her eyes.

In the late 1980s, Mrs. Huang first heard about Jesus Christ's love for her and started to attend Chinese Church in Church North Valley. She was baptized in River of Life Church and eventually came back to CCIC and has been actively involved with the church since then.

Mrs. Huang was a very cheerful, out-going woman and was well-loved. She made friends wherever she went because she had such a positive attitude about life, reflecting the joy that she experienced through Christ. Even when she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2005, she did not express anger against the physicians who missed early signs, but she forgave them. She was not disheartened when given an estimated six months left to live, but she chose to work hard in fighting the disease.

Shortly thereafter, Mrs. Huang joined the Northern California Chinese Division of the American Cancer Society, where she provided much comfort to others in similar situations as herself. She was even given several opportunities to share her experience surviving and thriving with cancer on the local Chinese television news broadcasts. By God's grace, Mrs. Huang was able to maintain an exceptional quality of life for a few years, even with late-stage lung cancer.

Mrs. Huang enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking care of young children, and going to garage sales. She also enjoyed taking daily hikes at Mission Peak and walking around Lake Elizabeth with her family and friends. One of her proudest accomplishments while she was living with cancer was climbing to the top of Mission Peak.

While we are saddened with the physical death of Mrs. Huang, we know that her spirit continues to live. We believe that she is now in the presence of God, where there is no pain, no tears, and no suffering. We look forward to once again being reunited with her in this better place.

Mrs. Huang is survived by her husband Albert Huang; sons, Lou Huang and Felix Huang; daughter, April Minh; son-in-law, Timothy Minh; and grandson Silas Minh.
