Gwen Martin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 1, 1900.
Gwen Ann (Taylor) Martin was born November 19, 1956 in Woodbury, NJ. She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Horace and Mrs. Lucille Taylor. She is survived by her husband Tony Martin (married March 23, 1996) and their daughters Jensina and Jiana Martin who live in Boden, Sweden. Gwen is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Gary and Mrs. Lois Taylor of Morrisville, PA and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mrs. Roseann and Mr. Peter Kerwin of Ft. Worth, TX. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews Charissa (Shawn) Lees, Jonathan Taylor, Caleb (Jennifer) Taylor, Jamie (Shawn) Ratti, Joshua Taylor, Melissa Kerwin and Jeff (Adria) Kerwin from Washington. Additionally, she leaves behind several great-nieces and great-nephews. Gwen was born and raised in Mt. Ephraim, NJ as the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Horace and Lucille Taylor at Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church. After graduating from Audubon High School in NJ and Messiah University (Grantham, PA), Gwen worked at homes for delinquent and handicapped youth in Washington State and New Jersey. In 1986 she joined Youth With A Mission (YWAM) whose slogan is "To Know God and To Make Him Known" in order to share with others her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. While with YWAM, she served in China, Switzerland, Sweden, Sierra Leone, Greece and many other European nations. Gwen then worked at the national headquarters of Interserve USA in Upper Darby, PA. In 1995 Gwen met Tony and they were married on March 23, 1996. In 1999 Gwen and Tony travelled to China to adopt Jensina (their first daughter), thereby fulfilling their lifetime dreams of adopting a child from another country. In 2001 they returned to China to adopt their second daughter, Jiana. In 2007 Gwen and Tony joined United World Mission as missionaries and were led by God to serve in Northern Sweden and return to the land where Gwen had served for 9 years before meeting Tony. After raising prayer and financial partners, they arrived at the city of Luleå to begin their Swedish ministry in 2010. Since then, they moved to Boden and have pioneered the idea of house churches in a land where less than 1% of the population are followers of Jesus Christ. Gwen adopted Sweden as her home and lived there for over 18 years to share her faith in practical ways with anyone she met. As a dear Swedish friend and colleague noted, "That she passed on to glory in Sweden is a testimony of her love for this nation and her missionary heart. She loved and was loved." Gwen's favorite verse from the Bible reads, "The Lord your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, he will be quiet in His love, he will rejoice over you with shouts of joy." (from the book of Zephaniah, chapter 3, verse 17). On October 14, her Savior Jesus welcomed her home and rejoiced over his child and she will now spend eternity with the One whom she loved so much. Public viewing & visitation will be held on Monday, October 28th from 7:00-9:00pm and Tuesday, October 29th from 9:30-11:00am with Gwen's Memorial Service to be held at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Morrisville, PA located at 50 North Pennsylvania Ave in Morrisville, PA. Burial will be held at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 1:00pm. Services entrusted to Dunn-Givnish Funeral Home.

During Gwen's faithful ministry years at Interserve we learned to love her dearly. We are so thankful for the joy of knowing her as well as Tony, Jensina and Jiana.
We rejoice that she is at Home with the Lord she loved and served and know that it isn't too far in the future when we will join her in our Heavenly Home.

What a wonderful testimony Gwen's life has been to the glory of God and His salvation through Christ, the Lord. We will be in prayer for the family at this time!
