SMITH, Gwen (Gwenie) Aug. 11, 1938 - Oct. 28, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce Gwen passed away suddenly on Monday, October 28th at the Comox Valley Seniors Village. Gwenie is predeceased by her parents Ernest and Cynthia Slater. She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her husband of 55 years, Arthur, son Shaun (Tracy) of Shallow Lake, ON, daughters; Debby (Nelson) of Salmon Arm, BC, Tammy (Terry) of Pembroke, ON and Shannon (Bob) of Calgary, AB, grandchildren; Morgan, Madeline, Marla, Jack, and Quintin, brothers; Bill (Joyce) and Gene (Beth), sisters; Heather (Richard), Gayle (Dave), Maylene (Wes), Cathy-Lynn (Gord), Jill (Keith), Shawnette (Hub), auntie Verna and Auntie Yvonne, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. . Gwenie worked for the Royal Bank for 25 years. She married Art in 1958 and they travelled to many air force stations and returned to Courtenay in 2002. Throughout all of her travels she always wanted to return to Courtenay to be surrounded by her many family and friends. . Special thanks to all of the caring staff at the Comox Valley Seniors Village. If friends so wish, donations in Gwenie's memory made to the ALS or PROP (Provincial Respitory Outreach Program) would be appreciated. . A Celebration of Gwenie's life will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 1PM at Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Rd., Courtenay, BC.
