Dear, Ma...

I'll miss your calm, settling manner. Your home was always a snug and welcoming place for me, a place where I could get advice and a warm cup of tea (so important to a new kid in town). You provided nourishment to the soul--both literally and figuratively--at a very formative time of my life. Thank you, Ma, for having an opinion. Thank you for providing guidance. Thank you for being a bright star. I'll look to the sky to see you now and continue to imagine what you'd say.

We'll all miss the ever elegant, Gwen. As my grandmother, she was known as GwenMa. She opened up new worlds for me--with her boat on the Puget Sound, in the orderly way she lived her life, her community of people and places in Madison Park, Seattle. She baked my first persimmon pudding, which I still make every Fall in memory of her. When I see a frog, I think of her fascinating collections of tchotchkes (frogs and all). Of course, white gloves and tea time are another deep well of memories of GwenMa. She was a hugely positive, spirited, and memorable person. We'll miss her twinkly blue eyes, laughter and love. We love you so...

Thanks for showing me the beautiful things in life, how to be a good grandson, for the betterment of my manners, and countless other amazing memories. You always taught us to do the right thing in life, and I appreciate your guidance, your wisdom, and your love. There is always a cup of tea waiting for you...

I treasure the last time Gwen, Carole and I were together, having English Tea in Bothell. Gwen was ever the beautiful, proper lady in the classic sense. We had first met 40 years ago when I was a young married woman accompanying my new grandmother-in-law Muriel. Our family and yours were friends since they were in business together many, many years ago at Reagan, Carr and Gaze. Connections and affections continued to grow by being your being neigbors with the Roberts family at Three Tree Point.
Hugs and blessings to all of your family at this time and comfort until you are reunited in Heaven.

I knew both Gwen and Arden both in business and at SYC where Arden was my favored mentor despite a 50 year age spread. Arden adored Gwen and the two were more'young at heart'than any other couple I ever knew. (Gwen also played a lengthy role as the famous "Mrs Hop-A-Long Cassidy which later played on TV.) A spectacularly popular and movie/TV actress, Gwen always kept all "Hollywood Secrets" despite offers otherwise. Beautiful Gwen always remains a noble lady of yesteryear & A Lady in Waiting with Arden her very own Knight of Shining Armor My deepest sympathy to her family. Shall now I miss the two of them? Fear so, as their great romance merges into one Star Spangled Banner for all time.
