Gwenda Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 27, 2025.
Gwenda Brown passed away on February 16th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones at Scripps Prebys Hospital after courageously battling cancer for two years. Her funeral service will be held Thursday, March 13th, 2025, at Shadow Mountain Community Church,

Gwenda was born January 8th, 1948, in Elk City, Oklahoma to Jerry and Glen Spencer, and they moved to San Diego when Gwenda was three years old. She was very close to her two sisters, Sharon and Laurie, and she loved them dearly. Gwenda attended Crawford High School. In April 1963 she married her soulmate, Arthur (Archie) Brown. They raised one son and six daughters, and they fostered two young children. Gwenda enjoyed working in customer service, but her true passion was being a mother. She found so much joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren. Gwenda was always an active member of her church and volunteered her time at the Pregnancy Care Center.

Archie and Gwenda moved to Yuma, Arizona in 2005. She discovered her love for gardening, and she could be found spoiling her grandchildren any chance she had. Her love language was acts of service - she enjoyed cooking for an army (her home always had an open-door policy), sewing quilts, or planning weekly bible studies.

Gwenda made everyone she met feel important, she loved life, and she chose kindness and happiness every day.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Scripps who treated her during her cancer battle and provided comforting care in her final days.

She is survived by her husband, Archie, her sister, Laurie, her seven children, Ronnie, Amy, Julie, Missy, Natalie, Carrie and Torri, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Dear Dear Gwenda, You were the sweetest of friends when I first moved to Bluelake Drive and met you in 6th grade. So glad we caught up a few years ago and that I know where you are and that we will have forever together. Praying for your Archie and all your family.

My heart is sad for the loss of my dear friend. Everyone loved Gwenda when we worked together. Colleagues, management and customers just loved her. She had a heart that was bigger than her. Our conversations were always geared toward our children and grandchildren and that she enjoyed work but she would brother stay home to be able to be free to help her children if they needed and her grandchildren. This world lost a special person but heaven rejoices to have Gwenda there.

Gwenda was truly an inspiration to everyone she meet. She was never without a smile and kind, encouraging words to everyone. Her legacy would be to always find the good in people. Thank you Gwenda for being our grandchildren´s other grandma. They learned to love life from you. Love Robin
