Mrs. Gwyneth "Gwen" Cox

Mrs. Gwyneth Marilyn Clifford Cox, born on November 7, 1927, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 surrounded by loved ones.
Gwen was born in Worchester, Massachusettes and raised in Danbury, New Hampshire and Springfield, Massachusettes. She graduated from Westfield State Teachers College in 1949 and began a long career shaping the hearts and minds of children. She married her beloved husband, Robert, in 1950 and they settled in Brightwaters to raise their family and where she taught until retiring in 1991.
Never one to be idle, Gwen was quite active in her retirement. She enjoyed gardening and traveling, was an avid bridge player and tireless volunteer. Some organizations which benefitted from her devotion were; Books fo Babies at Southside Hospital, Bay Shore Beautification Committee, and Westbury Gardens.
She also held offices with A.A.U.W., D.A.R., P.E.O., and if you asked, S.C.P.P.
Throughout her life, Gwen's greatest love was her family. As Matriarch, she knew just how to make each family member feel special. She was happiest when enjoying time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and baking for her loved ones !
In addition to her husband of 68 years, Gwyneth is survived by her four children: Robert (Joan), Pamela (James) McLott, Cheryl (Mark) Valente, and Timothy (Eileen) ,sisters Maureen (Jack)Tyburski and Nancy (Roy) Dooley, twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life to be held at 1 pm on January 19, 2019 at the First Congregational Church 1860 Union Blvd, Bay Shore.
