de BRUYN _ Gysbert (Bert) October 24, 1921 - January 3, 2009 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Gysbert (Bert) de Bruyn, in his 88th year, on Saturday, January 3, 2009. Bert was born on October 24, 1921 in The Netherlands. He married Jeannette in Holland and together they immigrated to Canada in 1952. Bert worked as an accountant for Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas in Calgary for many years. He was well respected for his strong work ethic, integrity and ability to work well with others. Bert is fondly remembered by his five children, Eric (Barb), Roland (Wendy), Victor (Anne Marie), Annette (David Lane), and Marlette (Brian Reed); as well as by seven grandchildren, Sarah, Lisa, Cheryl, Julia, Christopher, Curtis, and Jon; and five great-grandchildren. Bert was predeceased by his wife of fifty-four years, Jeannette in 2005; his grandson Jack; as well as two brothers in Holland. A Celebration of Bert's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 2:30 p.m., with Chaplain Marlette Reed officiating. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . Dear Vic:
When I think of your dad, I remember a quiet, scholarly, devoted family man who was never too busy to say a kind 'hello' to visitors, his, or those who were friends of any of his children. He is fondly remembered.

Vic I was so sorry to hear of your dad's death. I know from the last time we talked that he wasn't well and hasn't been for some time. Nevertheless, whether expected or not, it's so very difficult when it actually happens. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Dear de Bruyn Family;
I met your Dad when I joined HBOG in October 1954 as a young CA and worked with him until 1958 when I was hired by Home Oil. I returned to HBOG in 1970 and was delighted to be working with him again.
Bert was the guy who taught me how to work a ten key adding machine with one hand, not looking at the keyboard! He was a great asset to the accounting group at HBOG and a very pleasant gentleman to be associated with. Please know that Beverley and I are thinking of you at this difficult time.

Dear Family:

I was travelling to Edmonton on a team bus Sunday when I read about the passing of Bert. I was saddened by the news, and spent an hour or more thinking back of your Dad. I was a young supervisor in a new department at Petro-Canada, and Bert was consulting for us. He was in his later 60's at the time, but had more energy than most. He became a valuable resource on complex royalty agreement contracts, and was amazing at finding the right answers. His career provided him a wealth of knowledge, and he had an incredible mind for detail. When Bert finally retired for good, and I moved on to a different company...I remembered receiving Christmas Cards from Bert and his wife when he was wintering down south. His notes would always leave me with a warm feeling. I also remember how quietly proud he was of his faith. In a time when business lunches were rushed, and the talk was always on just that business, Bert was never shy to take time to pray for the meal he was about to enjoy. That impressed me.

To all the family, your Dad left his positive footprint on those he knew, and I am sure you are very proud of him.
