Obituary:

Hub Baker, known to many as H.B. "Hub" Baker, passed away on May 20, 2024, in Weatherford, Texas, at the age of 78. He was born on December 13, 1945, in Brenham, Texas. Hub was a loving husband to Martha and a devoted father to Mayme, Jane (and husband Ricardo Porras), and Joe Hub (and wife Bethany Baker). He was a cherished grandfather to Ethan Starnes, Mattie Rose Porras, Phillip Porras, Matthew Porras, Hub Baker, and V.O. Baker. Hub is also survived by his sister-in-law Elizabeth (and husband Marcus Busch), nephews Michael and Brian, and niece Cindy (and her husband Byron) and nephew Douglas (and his wife Joyce). He was preceded in death by his parents, Mayme and Hub Baker, his brother-in-law Renn Lawrence, and his sister Deloras Heit.

Hub was a proud alumnus of Brenham High School. He attended the University of Texas, but he is best remembered as a Fighting Texas Aggie. Throughout his career, Hub made significant contributions to the preservation of the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District and the Cowtown Coliseum and our Western Heritage. He was a Burleson County rancher and Snook Rodeo producer before becoming one of the original investors in Billy Bob's Texas, where he opened Texas Dry Goods. Hub played a pivotal role in creating and trademarking the iconic Billy Bob's Texas logos. Hub served on numerous boards and committees, including the Fort Worth Stockyards Preservation Foundation, Friends of the Fort Worth Herd, Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame, National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, and the Texas Trail of Fame. He was also a partner in the Red Steagall Cowboy Gathering for three decades.
Hub was the Executive Director of the Cowtown Coliseum, where he founded the Stockyards Championship Rodeo and Pawnee Bill's Wild West Show, Hub and his team produced over 2000 rodeo performances.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Hub Baker will be held at Billy Bob's Texas in the Fort Worth Stockyards on Wednesday, June 12, 2014, from 3:00-5:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stockyards Preservation Foundation of Fort Worth, Friends of the Fort Worth Herd, Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame, National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, or a charity of your choice.

Hub Baker's legacy of love, dedication, and preservation of Western heritage will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the community he served.

So very sorry to learn of Hub´s passing. If memory serves me, I met Hub and Billy Bob Barnett on the same day. I was asked to do a couple of sketches which eventually turned into the Billy Bob´s logo. Hub later commissioned me to do the logo for Cowtown Coliseum. Our business relationship evolved into a friendship that lasted many years. Hub always took a moment to visit and always had a story to tell. His support of me continued with the nomination for the "Trail of Fame". Our sympathy goes out to Martha and the family. Another great cowboy gone. Happy trails, Lisa and George Hallmark

We are so very grateful to have had Hub in our life and the wonderful opportunities he gave us at the Fort Worth Stockyards Championship Rodeo. He was one of the hardest working cowboys I know who was so very proud and passionate of the Cowboy way of life. We are forever grateful for him taking a chance on us. We will miss him deeply and will be forever grateful for the work we accomplished with him and his family. Our love to his family and loved ones. We loved and were very proud and honored to have worked with this man.

Hub was the leader of the Red Stegall caravan that came through the City of Weatherford. He knew marketing and how to get things done! Proud to have worked with Hub in marketing DFW Tourism for 25 years.
Everyone who really knew Hub, knew his real love wasn´t work it was Martha and the Aggies! Godspeed Hub.
Love, Debra Wakeland

Martha and Family,
Jack and I are so very sorry for your loss. I will always remember those morning get togethers at Brazos´s office where Hub, Doc, Tony Joe, Joe, and on occasion Mr. Ray would meet and have their daily talks before beginning their day. And even the time I was setting in line at Ft. Worth waiting to take our children´s steers in. A truck pulls up beside me and this guy says "I see Lyons Station is here". I look up and there is Hub. He truly was a remarkable man.
May God give you comfort during this difficult time.
