H.C. Grubb ABINGDON, Va. Mr. H.C. Grubb, age 86, a resident of the Rich Valley section, passed away on Sunday evening, May 12, 2013, at his home. He was born April 15, 1927, to the late Charlie McKinley and Virginia Bowyer Grubb and lived most of his life in the Rich Valley section of Washington County. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the U.S. Navy Fighting Sea Bees in the South Pacific. He received the Pacific Theatre of Operations Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a retired farmer and carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Eleanor F. Grubb of the home; one daughter, Shari Grubb of Abingdon; one son, Timothy (Tim) Grubb and very special daughter-in-law, Vanessa Grubb of Abingdon; one special granddaughter, Lourinda Sage; two special grandsons, Ryan Grubb and Jarrod Moore; special family friend, Kelvin Medley; one brother-in-law, Earl Fogleman and wife Nancy of Abingdon; one sister-in-law, Shirley Mitchell of Abingdon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Jennifer Jonkers and Hospice of Southwest Virginia for the care given to Mr. Grubb. Graveside services for Mr. H.C. Grubb will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15 at the Fogleman Family Cemetery, near the home on Rich Valley Road, with Pastor Larry Linkous officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery by 10:40 a.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 14 at Frost Funeral Home. Active pallbearers will be Tim Grubb, Ryan Grubb, Jarrod Moore, Adam Fogleman, Mike Fogleman, Jim Fogleman, Terry Gregory, Dave Bush and Kelvin Medley. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Fogleman, Glenn Wise, Fred Bellamy, Joe Andis, David Sullins, Phil Lowe, Fred Lester, Monty Lester and the men of Rich Valley United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rich Valley United Methodist Church, 22285 Rich Valley Road, Abingdon, VA, 24210; or to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 301 Valley Street, NE, Abingdon, VA, 24210.
