H. H. "Doc" Robertson, age 91 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, Missouri.
Born Saturday, September 1, 1923 in Longrun, Missouri, he was the son of the late Thomas Fred Robertson and the late Lulu (Stockton) Robertson. He and Mildred Brightwell were united in marriage, then Betty Nichols. He married Bettie Ruffner who preceded him in death February 27, 2006. Also preceding him in death are one daughter, Vicki Jackman; three brothers, Auda, Glen and Ray Robertson; and two sisters, Olis Meeks and Carole Roberts.
"Doc" served as a 2nd Lieutenant and bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps and a Veteran of World War II.
He worked as a Veterinarian, and he owned and operated Robertson Veterinary Clinic. He also was a nutrition educator and consultant. A 1942 high school graduate of Forsyth, Missouri, he then received a Bachelor's in Agriculture, a Master's in Science in Nutrition and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, all from the University of Missouri. He has lived in Higginsville since 1953.
He was a lifetime member of M.U. Alumni Association, a deacon, elder and treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church in Higginsville where he was a member; served on Meyer Foundation Board and served as chairman until 2012, a 55+ member of the Higginsville Masonic Lodge and Ararat-Shrine, lifetime member of Higginsville American Legion Post #223, member of Chamber of Commerce and Higginsville Optimist Club. "Doc" was a founding investor of Higginsville State Bank and served on the board; a member of Lafayette Co. Emergency Preparedness, Higginsville School Board, served two terms as Mayor of Higginsville; was an Instructor for the Lafayette Co. Firearms Organization; lifetime member of the N.R.A., member of the Republican National Committee , Missouri Conservation Federation and Ducks Unlimited. He served as an auxiliary deputy 40 years for the Lafayette Co. Sheriff Department and Higginsville Police Department, and he was a founding member of International Academy of Preventive Medicine. "Doc" was awarded Missouri State Veterinarian of the Year in 1972.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce (Lynda) Robertson of Buckner, Missouri, Rick (Marie) Robertson of Columbia, Missouri; three daughters, Betty Jean Townes of Houston, Texas, Paula (Terry) Alexander of Columbia, Missouri, Gail Robertson of Higginsville; one sister, Alene Brown of Springfield, Missouri; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 111 Fairground Ave. Higginsville, with Pastor Tim Biesemeyer officiating and Melody Coen as organist. Interment will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church.
Pallbearers are Jack Beale, Scott Alexander, Todd Alexander, Craig Scurlock, Tanner Martin and David Shafer. Honorary pallbearers are Current and Retired Lafayette Law Enforcement.
